A. Overview
the beauty of Mount Kerinci
Mount Kerinci with an altitude of 3,805 meters above sea level is the highest volcano in Indonesia. The mountain has a crater-shaped cone with the upper wall of the measuring 600 x 580 meters and the bottom wall of measuring 120 x 100 meters, which is filled with yellowish green water.

Mount Kerinci is located at coordinates of 100 ° 31’18 "E - 102 ° 44’01" E and 1 ° 07’13 "S - 1 ° 26’14" S and stretches between two districts in the province of Jambi, which are Kerinci district and Sulak Deras district.
B. Features

In the area of Mount Kerinci, several types of forests grow along its slopes. The types of those forests include Dipterokarp Forest Hill, Dipterokarp Atas, Montane,

and Ericaceous. The area of Dipterokarp Forest Hill is located at an altitude of 300-750 meters above sea level containing the main species, such as Pokok Seraya, Pokok Keruing, Pokok Meranti, and Pokok Damar Minyak.

The area of Dipterokarp Atas is located at an altitude of 750 to 1,200 meters above sea level containing most of the species are simple form, such as Pokok Mempening, Pokok Berangan, Pokok Damar Minyak, and Pokok Podo. On the higher slope is found Montane Forest that is located at an altitude of 1.200 to 1.500 meters above sea level or contained in Fraser Hill and Cameron Highlands. Inside this forest is found Rafflesia flowers, Periuk Apes, and Pokok Rhododendron. The lower temperatures and faster wind make the tree that grows in the forest with an average height between 1.5 to 18 meters. The last forest is Ericaceous that is located at an altitude of 1.500 meters above sea level, which has the main species, including Pokok Kelat, Pokok Periuk Apes, various shrubs, reeds, nail-ferns and mosses.

After passing through the forest and up to the mountain peak at an altitude of 3,805 meters above sea level, the tourists can witness the amazing sight. The tourists can see in every direction around the compass to see the panoramic view of Mount Kerinci with a vast expanse of forests, verdant tea plantations joined into a single unit in a symphony of natural beauty of Mount Kerinci.

The location can be reached by two alternatives: first, the trip begins from the city of Jambi to Sungai Penuh city of approximately 500 km to spend about 10 hours by public transportation, rental cars or private cars.

Second, the trip begins from the city of Padang to Tapan, and then proceeds to Sungai Penuh city of approximately 278 km to spend about 7 hours by public transportation, rental cars or private cars.
F. Accommodation and Facilities

Currently no star class hotels in Kerinci district, but the tourists do not need to worry because in the city of Sungai Penuh (the capital of Kerinci district), many middle class hotels are available with fairly cheap rates ranging from IDR 50,000.00 to IDR 100,000.00/night for one room (February 2008).
