Some advice on how to make the most of your time when you are stuck waiting on a flight inside an airport.

What with a million people now on the suspected terrorist watch list and the number of flights being reduced by airlines to save money, you are more likely than ever to find your stay at the airport delayed. Even when bad weather isn't a problem, there is every reason to expect that you may very well be facing an hour or longer wait just to board your plane. What can do you do to relieve the boredom and frustration of having to deal a long wait?

Handheld Electronic Entertainment

Well, the first thing you'll probably want to consider is bringing along one of the many handheld entertainment devices available today. Especially if you have kids you'll want to bring along their Gameboys and PSP games. Video games can truly make waiting with a child a less than suicidal experience. In addition, if you have a cell phone capable of playing videos or watching live TV, that is a perfect way to make the time pass. But what if you either don't have one of those devices, or even an iPod or digital media player? What can you do then?

Letter Writing

Remember letter writing? Now is the perfect time to compose a long letter to someone you haven't seen or spoken to in some time. The waiting time in an airport is also a perfect opportunity to write out your bills. Some airports even have post offices, or at least mailboxes, in which to slip the completed envelope. You might also consider taking this time to balance your checkbook. If writing is not your thing, an airport wait offers endless potential for getting away from Pres. Bush's latest mistake and escaping into the dark world of one of those really big Stephen King novels from the 1980s. Or if Tommyknockers or It isn't your cup of tea, take the time read one of my novels. The name it Timothy Sexton, look me up on Amazon or anywhere else. You can read anything you want while waiting at the airport. Reading is fantastic and you should really make every effort possible to do this when you can.

If sitting around reading isn't your idea of a great way to spend time at the airport, consider getting some exercise. Most airports are pretty decently sized buildings and with harried travelers running to and fro nobody is going to be any the wiser if you become fleet of foot and take to jogging around the airport. What better way to spend an hour waiting for a flight than to get in shape. Jogging is easy to do and you don't need any special equipment, other than a good pair of shoes.

You might also consider doing some shopping while waiting in the airport. Many of the bigger airports have some pretty ritzy and glitzy stores inside and you just may be able to find something unique and affordable to take home to your significant other. Shopping, even if you are one of those guys who pretends that going to the mall with your wife is the equivalent of torture, can really make the time pass. And in some of these airport shops you just may come across some things that you've never seen before. Even if you don't buy anything, just window shopping can make an hour wait seem like fifteen minutes.
