Wat Pho (Temple of the Reclining Buddha)

At 15 meters high and a length of 46 meters this huge "Reclining Buddha" makes Wat Pho prominent and famous, this Buddha that was covered in gold and decorated with mother-of pearl on its eyes and feet is designed to illustrate the passing of the Buddha into nirvana, the feet also depicts 108 characteristics of the true Buddha.

Bits and Pieces

Wat Pho (Wat Phra Chetuphon) is the largest and oldest Wat in Bangkok, it also houses more than 1000 Buddha images and most of the part are open to visitors. The temple is also considered as the Thailand's first University.

Wat Pho is also famous for its traditional Thai massage where herbal concoction and hot compress are being use to rejuvenate tired muscles of the body. The massage usually cost around 150Baht or higher.

Getting there

For visitors the temple is open from 08:00am -5:00pm but has a break from 12:00pm-1:00pm. A lot of tour guides can be hired for 150Baht per person if you are interested to learn better culture and history.

Aircon buses numbers 6, 8, 12 can be use to get near the temple. Ordinary buses with numbers 1, 25, 44, 47, 62 and 91 also stop near it.
