This is some of my Asian travels, in particular my visit to Indonesia's capital Jakarta and its museum hub - Kota Tua

Sojourn to Jakarta

Its my nth visit to Indonesia. This time its to join my wife and probably stay for a long time pursuing my arts and teaching career, I found list of interesting places must visit in Jakarta if Bali is not yet on your mind.

The old prestigious place is Kota Tua-- the old center of Jakarta. It is an area of Dutch colonization inheritance which was well-known as Batavia in the 17th century yes roughly 300 years ago. At Kota Tua area you can see old buildings with architecture style influenced by the Dutch or European architecture style, Chinese and even some of them with combination of Dutch and Chinese architecture.
The old buildings at Kota Tua area mostly occupied as museums by the government of Indonesia. The archileogical museum near the post office is one museum I failed to see it since its Sunday and says under repair. But Kota Tua is one of a very interesting place or area to visit when you travel to Jakarta since it’s a center of historical tourism object in Jakarta. The old splendor of Batavia can still be seen on the rehabilitated buildings that stood the test of time and several wars. It's colorful history has also some shade of dark past as one of the building was even a prison dungeon during the the 2nd world war. However it's still the colonial period that will provide a glimpse of its glorious past. It has a monicker of "Amsterdam of the East", at my vantage view, the canals and warehouses are missing except those imposing mansions.

The cozy street showcase street artist, souvenirs and other things. The Puppet museum is a very nice visual respite. For a hearty lunch you may visit Cafe Batavia. For local variety other restaurant is serving them including a convenient store for the regular who would have only few minutes of visiting time. On the way out or back to your hotel you might try to try the Terminal station or their busway system connecting to the major thoroughfares of Jakarta across this modern public transport is the imposing building of the train station with a huge interior and several food stalls and bank to ease the daily commuters across the island of Java to all directions.

On my bucket list to visit Indonesia soon, so thanks for the good info. Bali and Java are on the itinerary, but we'll plan to stop for a couple days in Jakarta as well. Simona

It's a great place to visit! A truly Asian destination to showcase more than the place but culture as well!
