Versailles is a great place to visit when you are in Paris. You must check out the Chateau of Versailles. The building of the chateau was started in 1623.

Visit Versailles When You are in Paris

If you only have time for a 1 day trip when you visit Paris make it Versailles. The Palace is located in the town of Versailles and Versailles is considered a suburb of Paris.

The building of the Chateau of Versailles was started in 1623 and it was to be a hunting lodge for Louis XIV. The property was later converted into an enclave for the court of Louis XIV in the late 17th century.

The buildings in the Chateau of Versailles are very ornate and they are filled with period furniture and unusual exhibits. It is a fabulous and beautiful place to visit.

The main Palace of Versailles is surrounded by a spacious, luxurious park filled with fountains, sculptures and beautiful gardens. The gardens have canals going through them and at one time there were 1,400 statues in the gardens. There is a 1 mile long Grand Canal that King Louis XIV would ride through in his gondola. This is a must see place that you will love and long remember.

The best way to visit Versailles is to divide the trip into four categories which are: 10 The Palace, 2) the Gardens, 3) Marie Antoinette’s Estate and 4) the Grand Trianon. Take a tour of the grounds by yourself but take a guided tour of the lavishly decorated interior of the Palace

Most visitors concentrate on the Palace, which was the residence of the King and his court. The palace is huge, beautiful and presents an almost overwhelming array of attractions. Be sure to check out the state apartments, Opera House and the Chapel Royal. You must also check out the Hall of Mirrors. The Hall of Mirrors was constructed to symbolize the power of the French Monarchy. The most popular places to see are the interior of the Chateau, The Hall of Mirrors, Royal Opera, Marble Staircase, Mars Drawing Room, Venus and Diana Drawing Rooms and the Royal Chapel.

The Grande Encourie is another popular place with visitors. This was Louis XIV stables where 600 horses were kept.

The Queens Hamlet is also a popular place. Louie XVI built it for Marie Antoinette. She used to like to pretend she was a shepherdess.
When you are at the Chateau de Versailles you can visit the Musee de l’Histoire de France. There are exhibits from the time of the Revolution in 1789. The museum is home to many paintings and engravings.

It would be worth your while to take a formal guided tour of the Palace so you can enjoy all its beauty and what it has to offer its visitors.
