The small town of Venice, Louisiana has earned the nickname "The End of the World." This is because it is the last community down the Mississippi that is accessible by automobile.

Venice Louisiana

Venice is a town that is located in the state of Louisiana in Plaquemines Parish. This town is located south of New Orleans on the west bank of the Mississippi River. Many people travel to Venice because it offers a diverse variety of fish. This town is known to be the starting point for most offshore fishing. Grande Isle, Louisiana is located nearby.

When Hurricane Katrina struck in 2005, the town of Venice was almost destroyed. Rebuilding of the town has taken place since then. The high bridge that leads to Venice was not destroyed by the hurricane. An environmental disaster struck Venice in April 2010. This was a major oil spill from the Deep-water Horizon oil rig explosion.

Local industries in Venice provide transportation and service for offshore platforms. Other industries include commercial and sport fishing. Off the coast of Venice, deep sea fishing is quite popular. Blue Marlin, White Marlin, Red Snapper, Yellow-fin tuna, and a variety of other reef fish are plentiful in the area. Venice is a popular vacation destination for fishing. Fishing charters are available to take you out to sea. In Venice, you can find the most sought after deep water species in the world. From Venice, fishermen are able to reach the most productive waters.

Venice, Louisiana resembles Venice, Italy where the winding canals are streets. Venice, Louisiana sits at the end of Highway 23 right at the edge of the Mississippi River Delta. Freshwater and saltwater both converge on it’s territory.
