The Honey Island Swamp is considered unique because it is one of the least altered swamps in the United States. Even today, this swamp remains in its original condition as a pristine wilderness.

Travel to Honey Island Swamp in Louisiana

The natural beauty of Honey Island Swamp located in the state of Louisiana attracts nature lovers from near and far. This beautiful swamp makes its home in St. Tammany Parish. The north end of the swamp is bordered by U.S 90. On the east and west side of the swamp is where the Pearl River runs. To the south of the swamp lies Lake Borgne. The island has earned its name from a large amount of honeybees that are located nearby.

This is a beautiful river swamp spanning over 20 miles long and 7 miles wide. It is also a permanently protected wildlife area. A large variety of wildlife and birds make their home in the Honey Island Swamp. The swamp is open to touring by boats and it provides a fun and educational experience for all. Alligators and wild boar live in this swamp too.

Visitors can choose tour boats that are covered or uncovered to explore the Honey Island Swamp. This well preserved wetland is alive with raccoons, snakes, owls, turtles, bald eagles and black bear. Nearby this swamp is an authentic Cajun Village that is only accessible by boat. The swamp is alive with many beautiful old cypress trees strewn with moss. Herons and egrets also love this swamp.

It is absolutely amazing the breathtaking views this swamp offers to nature lovers, bird watchers, photographers, writers, children, adults and families who take a tour. Some tours allow for a two hour journey. Tickets are inexpensive and group discounts are available.
