Kingswear is a village in Devon, located by the River Dart opposite the town of Dartmouth. As such, some may consider it to be a part of Dartmouth, although in many respects Kingswear has some notable sites of its own.

Travel Destinations: Kingswear, UK

To begin with, the end of the Paignton steam railway is connected to Kingswear. As such, from Kingswear you will find Kingswear station and visitors can embark on a journey to Paignton via the steam railway. Also at the station, a small steam railway museum can be found which covers the history of steam lines in the region of Devon.

Overall, the village of Kingswear also links to the South West Coast path. From Kingswear, the coastal path can be followed towards the harbor village of Brixham. Alternatively, the Dart Valley trail is a walk a little over 4 miles that can be made from Kingswear through to Greenway.

Also in Kingswear you will find the Coleton Fishacre. This is a national trust owned Arts and Crafts art deco style house, that also has a coastal garden which includes rare and exotic Mediterranean and South African plants alongside its meandering network of garden paths. Along with its tea-room, the Coleton Fishacre also hosts jazz concerts and plays in both house & garden, as well as guided walks.

Given its proximity to Dartmouth, many splendid marine crafts and yachts can be found at Kingswear. This is especially the case during the Dartmouth Royal Regatta, where the river fills with various boats. In addition to this, the Royal Dart Yacht club is also located in Kingswear.

Equally, Dartmouth can easily be reached via Kingswear. Short foot passenger ferries provide a crossing over to Dartmouth. From Dartmouth, various boat cruises can also be made along the River Dart. Or alternatively, out from Dartmouth towards the Torbay seaside towns.

A short walk from Dartmouth, Dartmouth castle can be found on the Dart estuary. Unlike Kingswear Castle on the other side of the river, this is open to visitors and provides excellent views of the surrounding coastline.

Kingswear also has a variety of accommodation in the area. Hotels and Bed & Breakfasts are in the area. Self-catering holiday cottages are also another option.

So really, with its steam railway Kingswear is always worth a visit. Equally, given its proximity to the River Dart, Dartmouth is also easily reachable from Kingswear. For further details on Kingswear, consider visiting the Kingswear website:
