Top Three Islands in Croatia

There are many beautiful, heavenly islands which dot the Adriatic off the Croatian coastline, all of which have something to offer. It is difficult to narrow down these wonders to discover the top 3 Islands in Croatia, but here are three which could be argued to be amongst the very best that Croatia has to offer the seafaring tourist. And if you wish to see more, ask your yacht skipper to show you secluded islands only he knows about.
And now our three picks...

Heavenly Hvar
The well-known tourist island of Hvar is heaven for hedonists. Whether you want to picnic in a secluded bay, drive through fragrant lavender fields, sup up the sea-food delicacies on offer in Hvar Town's fine restaurants or sip a cocktail in one of the chic and glamorous bars, you are sure to be enchanted by this precious island jewel. Explore the quaint historic villages, or visit prehistoric archaeological sites, do a bit of celebrity spotting or swim in clear blue waters off the pristine rocky coast. Heavenly Hvar will leave you wanting more and you may find yourself wanting to return, as do many of the rich and famous, every year.

Moonlit Mljet
Mljet is a romantic retreat of beautiful nature trails and quiet coves, perfect for loved-up couples. While it is easy to imagine finding romance on any of Croatia's stunning islands, Mljet is magical in its allure - its appeal for lovers is mythic. It was here, it is said, that Odysseus lived for seven years, unable to tear himself away from his idyllic life with the nymph Calypso. You too can find romance on this quiet and unspoiled paradise island, which is the most densely forested of all the Adriatic islands. Moor your yacht in one of the sublime natural anchorages of Polače, and explore the mystic olive groves, verdant forests and vineyards before sitting with a glass of wine and watching the sun go down over the water.

Serene Solta
Solta is often overlooked - both literally from the mediaeval town of Split, but also overlooked by tourists, who often travel instead to the glitzier islands of Hvar, Brac and Korcula nearby. Close as it is to the Croatian mainland, Solta retains a peace and relaxed way of life that make it a haven away from the bustle of the city. Sail to Solta for relaxation and outdoor recreation amid the beautiful rolling pine covered hills and beside the rocky shoreline. This slow and gentle island is perfect for hiking and biking, so why not cycle your way on lovely tracks around the island, and visit the tiny villages like Gornje Selo that seem frozen in time, or walk out from the quirky seaside harbour of Maslinka, and climb to the island's highest point. You are sure to feel like you have fallen back through time as you explore the ageless hills and stone buildings scattered across this serene island.

Wherever you choose to moor your yacht on your Adriatic sailing adventure, you will find many gorgeous islands to explore and many peaceful moorings and as you voyage on azure seas you are sure to make your own discoveries amid these beautiful islands that will make you want to return, again and again, to their peaceful shores.
