The fear of flying has haunted many people. The very thought of flying makes life miserable for them. The fear of flying has prevented people from meeting near and dear ones. It has also prevented them from visiting great destinations.

Here are ways that you can overcome the fear of flying –

Think of flying as a way to meet your near and dear ones

Think of flying as a way to meet your near and dear ones. Do not concentrate on the journey of flying but think about the wonderful experience that you will have when you meet them.

Think of their smiling faces and fill yourself with positive happy thoughts.

Do not take the flight alone

Do not take the flight all by yourself. Make sure that you have a friend or family member along. When you are alone, you are likely to be nervous and much more tensed.

When you have someone with you, you can keep yourself engaged by talking to them about your favorite topics.

Keep yourself engaged

If you love music then take your ipod along and remember to take a good pair of earphones. Once you get on the flight start listening to your favorite music. This will help you relax.

Plug onto your iphone if you have loaded all the music in the iphone but remember do not run the phone out of charge. If you still choose to listen to music on your iphone carry a power bank with you.

The world of books is quite the escape. Take your favorite book along and read during the flight. Solve a puzzle, play a word game, anything to keep your mind occupied.

More tips to overcome the fear of flying

*Wear comfortable clothes that are not tight fitting. Tight fitting clothes can make you feel hot and bothered. This will only add to making you feel miserable in the flight.

*Just before the flight avoid drinks with caffeine. Caffeine does not have a calming effect on your body. Do not consume any alcoholic drink.

*Avoid reading about plane crashes in the newspaper, do not watch them on the TV or listen to them on the radio especially when you are going to take a flight in a few days.

*Consult a therapist to overcome the fear of flying. Learn relaxing techniques to help you manage your anxiety levels.

*If nothing works consult your doctor to give you medication that will help to ease the anxiety and prevent any panic attacks when you fly.

Flying can be a great when you know how to relax and enjoy the experience.

Good tips Vellur, I know few who have this issue.

Though I can tolerate the flying part, sometimes those who sit aside can annoy me no end with their (uncouth) behavior (like using the arm rest to an extent to encroach inside my space too!) siva
