The cave inscriptions of Asoka are in Gaya

Asoka issued a number of inscriptions which have thrown considerable light on the life and administration of Asoka.

The Seven pillar edicts

The Asoka inscriptions can be broadly classified as-
1. The Fourteen rock edicts
2. The Seven pillar edicts
3. The Minor rock edicts
4. The Kalinga rock edict
5. The Four Minor pillar edicts
6. The Two Commemorative pillar edicts
7. Three cave inscriptions.

The Rummindle and Naigliva pillar inscriptions are in Nepal.

The Ashokan inscription are found at Shahbazgarhi and Mansehra. The Bhabru rock edict is in Calcutta. It was originally on a hill at Bairat. The cave inscriptions of Asoka are in Gaya. The minor pillar inscriptions are in Sarnath, Sanci, Kausambi and Allahabad. The Rummindle and Naigliva pillar inscriptions are in Nepal.

His empire also consisted of parts of Mysore in South.

The inscriptions of Asoka in the North Western Provinces are in Kharoshti script and the inscriptions of Asoka in other parts of India are in Brahmi script. The concept of Dharma evolved by Asoka has also been described in the inscription. According to Rajatarangini of Kalhana, Kashmir had been a part of Ashokan empire. V.A. Smith is of the opinion that Shoka's Empire composed of Afghanistan, Baluchistan, Makran, Sind, Kutch, Kashmir and Nepal. Expect Assam the entire region of North India was included in the Ashokan empire. His empire also consisted of parts of Mysore in South.
