About some of the famous places in the city of Chennai. I have mentioned only about few things here, there are many more tell about this "Park of Peace". Proud to be Living here.

Chennai - Intellectual capital of India

Chennai is the capital city of the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. Chennai is the fourth most populous metropolitan city in India. Located on the Coromandel Coast of the Bay of Bengal, Chennai city has a population of over 6.2 million. Tamil is the official language here. The urban agglomeration of metropolitan Chennai has an estimated population over 10 million people. Chennai is famous for many beautiful places.

The Marina Beach

Marina Beach is the most famous beach of Tamil Nadu and India and is the main attraction of Chennai city. The beach is considered to the second largest in the world. The beach stretches over a distance of about 11 km. The width of the beach varies from 500m to 1 km. The span of the beach begins from the old secretariat to Besant Nagar. This sandy beach is not only popular amongst the morning joggers, but is also a must visit spot for the tourists. Recently, the government has developed the landscape with many parks and lovely sculptures.

Statues

Statues of great freedom fighters, icons and leaders like Mahatma Gandhi, Thiruvalluvar, avvayar, Kamarajar, Periyar, Anna, MGR and the Statue of Labor are present all along the arterial roads of Chennai.

Burial sites of famous political leaders like Anna, MGR and Periyar are sites of public interest, were their life history is portrayed as exhibits.

Recently, the Tamil Nadu Government has installed statues in the parks created from waste lands all through the city.

Other important places

Valluvar kottam is another famous destination for local and foreign tourists. It was created in memory of Saint Thiruvalluvar, who gave the world famous Thirukkural.

The Corporation building (Rippon Building) is more than 100 years old.

The Koyembedu market is the largest in Asia and the Bus terminus adjoining it also figures in the largest list.
