It is so surprising to see a precious statue in the middle of the mountain.

The Man in The Middle of The Mountain

In the first month of this year, my colleague and I set off from the rented house to visit the local community in Barangay Sumadel of Tinglayan, Kalinga, Philippines. It was past half six in the morning, when we started to walk through the other side mountain of Poblacion. I was a newcomer in the team, taking pictures along the foot path is one of the main activities done. Since the place where so beautiful and the views are so inviting. The cold breeze swipes in our faces, taking turns to rest due to high slopes of the land area.

After two hours of hiking, I asked my colleague to take a stopover. I also noticed that we are running out of water and the heat of the sun makes so tiring as the sweat drips into our forehead. He was just grinning and said we are near the place. Since he is so familiar in the area, I just follow him along the path. Finally, in the middle of the mountain; I saw the statue of Mr. Sumadel. Moreover, the water in the tap stand is continuously flows at his side. Without any further due, I run towards the statue to drink water and splash my face with the freshly cold water. It was a very refreshing moment, the body heat toned down and ready for the next half tripping with my colleague.

As we reached the final destination, we took the time to lay our back in the waiting shed and execute our mission to check the project site of the community. A part of monitoring the project, we took the time to organize the local tribes.

The adventure didn’t stop there, we still need to go back home before dawn. It is really a typical development work, the walk through journey. I didn’t feel any worries, since I can still see the statue of Mr. Sumadel and the ambulation will be easy going down the slopes. The past event of our life sometimes brings joy from within and we found something unexpectedly.

If you are a mountain hiker, then this the best place to search hidden treasures and experiencing the tribal culture that is so unique. I am not in this placement anymore, but some of colleagues continue the target milestone. I still keep in touch with them, if there is time to explore this place; then I will have another chance to explore the place in the cordillera.
