The Dubai gold bazaar called gold souk is world famous and tourists throng to the place

World of Gold

Dubai is often called the "El Dorado" of the East and in point of fact it is. Dubai is the city of gold and it houses one of the biggest and brightest gold bazaar in the world called the gold souk. What does Souk mean? It is an Arabic word for “Market” or “Bazaar”. The gold souk at Dubai is famous all over the world.
The gold souk is located in the old quarter of Dubai and has a string of shops . It is a pedestrian plaza and vehicles are not allowed, except for the police who move about in small 100 cc motorbikes. It’s a crowded place , but pretty safe and no crime has ever been reported there.
I visited the gold souk and was mighty impressed with it. Foreigners especially Americans throng to this market and many women wear the exotic gold jewelry items and get them photographed. There is a bewildering variety of designs of gold ornaments and one can get hand crafted necklaces made of 24 carat gold. There are many jewelers from India in the gold souk in Dubai , which is an absolute delight. It is so easy to pass the time here and it flies like the cuckoo. There is gold souk even in Abu Dhabi, but it does not have the glitter of the Dubai Souk.
I bought a gold necklace and will wear it, to pass the Indian customs. It’s a place that one must visit in Dubai. The gold souk is a something unique and for me its place I visit often as I simply love it. Lastly one must remember that the price of gold is lower than India and the international market. So no harm in picking up a piece of jewelry/.

Thanks Ladybird for this feel good post.

Dubai is a place that shows genuine capitalism at work that coexists with religion. One need not look further. It is also a place where few have become enormously rich though their efforts.

When I left Dubai after a visit, I told a prayer - may it survive like it is for ages. There is genuine coexistence in the truest term - siva
