A few key features of Stourbridge, England. Learn some things about this historic town.


Stourbridge is located on the edge of the Black County, and is just 15 miles away from Birmingham (that's about 30 minutes). Stourbridge is also surrounded by such cities as Telford (to the Norh West), Wolverhampton (to the North), Dudley (to the North East), Birmingham (to the East), Hagley (to the South East), Worcester (to the South), Stourport (to the South West), Enville (to the West). Stourbridge is mostly known for it Glass Production, from which it got it's name. Transportation wise there is a train station, bus routes, and you can even take a narrowboat along the canal!

There are two colleges within Stourbridge, King Edward VI College (founded in 1552, became 6th form college in 1976) and Stourbridge College of Further Education. There is a co-ed sixth form school, Old Swinford Hospital, which was founded in 1667. There are also many secondary schools in Stourbridge.

Glass Production

Stourbridge got it's name from the glass production company, which has been manufactured since the early 1600s. Most of the glass manufactured wasn't in Stourbridge at all, but surrounding areas!There are/were 11 glass factories in Stourbridge by 1861, and they were all along the canal. Glass manufacturing peaked in the 19th century. In 1861, 1,032 residents within Stourbridge did something within the glass field as a living.
