The article describes the serenity of the place Shillong, the capital of Meghalaya.

Serenity of Shillong.

The north-eastern states of India had been blessed with the colorful flora and fauna provided by the Himalayas. Yet the people of the other part of the country are still not aware of those romantic landscapes.

Shillong, being situated at an altitude of 4908 feet above sea-level, is the capital of the romantic state of Meghalaya. The European Settlers used to associate Shillong with Scotland and from that time, the city came to be called the Scotland of the East. Meghalaya is called the Abode of Clouds, with the sun, clouds, mist and rain playing hide and seek with each other.

Shillong remained the capital of the undivided state of Assam, till 1972, when the state of Meghalaya was created and Guwahati became the capital of Assam. With a small population of 232,946, Shillong forms one of the attractive travel destinations of the North East. From travelers from Eastern India can travel by Saraighat Express from Howrah and reach Guwahati. From there gypsies, jeeps, Scorpios, Qualis cars, etc., can take visitors to Shillong. The woodland dhaba, in the mid-way provides good break-fast breaks with its colorful location amidst valley and agricultural fields. The jackfruits sticking out of the jack-fruit trees make everyone bewildered.

Hotel Micasa.

The hotel Micasa in Shillong has a very romantic ambience with other hotels, restaurants in the vicinity. The most striking tourist destination in Shillong includes the Golf Course. The lush green carpet being created by India’s one of the best golf courses remind everyone of Scotland. The popular waterfall titled Elephant Falls is very picturesque. But the exorbitant entry fee is not justified at all.

Lady Hydari Park.

Lady Hydari Park.

One of the other romantic destinations includes the Lady Hydari Park. The undulations of the place had allowed the British Government to create lakes where boating is done very regularly. The lighting of the park in the evening is even more romantic.

The Golf Course.

The Golf Course of Shillong is the best Golf Course in the entire country. Due to its existence Shillong is called the Scotland of the East. The grass the green and the ambience absolutely brilliant. The local people utilize the greenary for different types of games.

Umium Lake

The Umiam Lake, also called Bara Pani Lake, is famous for many water sports. There are few impressive churches also in Shillong. The Churches were built mainly by the British when India was under colonial rule. Visitors should visit Shillong once in their lifetime.

The Lady Hydari Park has different beauty, once during the day, and the colourful ambience at night.

Came across your write-up by chance. Well, I was born and brought up in Shillong. And, i truly feel that's the best place in the world. Although, I live in the US now and have seen beautiful places, Shillong's beauty cannot be compared to anything. Nice to read about Shillong from a different perspective.
