Family trip exploring Arcadia National Park, Mount Desert Island, Maine

Hot hot hot!

With beautiful scorching hot weather we drove the short distance from Bar Harbour to Sand Beach. Sand Beach is a sheltered unspoilt little sandy cove where the forest comes right down to the orange rocky shore line, all very pretty. The water was icy cold so we only braved a very shallow paddle but hardier souls were swimming in the bay.

We had a picnic lunch and relaxed in the sunshine before continuing on the loop road around the island.

Cadillac Mountain

We continued on the loop road and drove up to Cadillac Mountain where a pretty path had been created taking you around the summit. The views where amazing, panoramic views of the island, Frenchman's Bay and surrounding islands - gorgeous!

Poor Boys Gourmet

Later on in the afternoon we took advantage of the shared facilities at the neighbouring Holiday Inn hotel and went for a swim in their bayside swimming pool. In the evening we went into Bar Harbour cente for dinner and a stroll around the town.

We had dinner at, 'Poor Boys Gourmet' who specialise in lobster and pasta dishes. All very fresh and good quality and huge portions! They also offer a free second pasta dish if you finish your first, ideal for the hungry diner.

The temperature had really cooled after dinnner so we had a lovely stroll down to the waterfront area for a delicious ice-cream.
