Just as children and other members of a family expect their Dad to give them love, care and support, so it is with a church organization, Catholic followers the world over forget for a moment grief and frustrations when they personally see the pope smiles and gives them words of hope and encouragement.

Pope Francis visits Turin by bus

Pope Francis will wake up early to begin his 2-day apostolic visit on Sunday, June 21 to Turin in northern Italy. Departing Rome on Sunday at 7 a.m. , the Holy See, with his group, will arrive in Turin by bus one hour after as expected, and the many important activities that are lined up as planned will immediately commence.

Three important targets

First in line is Pope Francis encounter with common workers in the city’s plaza where a businessman, a factory worker and a farmer are gathered to say their greetings to the pope. After exchanges of talks with the workers, he will walk the short distance to the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist nearby, where he’ll devote a few moments in prayer before the Shroud of Turin, believed by the multitude as the burial cloth of Lord Jesus. The pope is likewise expected to devote a few golden moments of prayer before an altar dedicated to a young blessed, born in Turin, Piergiorgio Frassati.

Outdoor mass and lunch with people of diverse background

After an outdoor papal mass with thousands of faithfuls and devotees in attendance, the Pope will share lunch in the local archbishop’s residence together with inmates from a juvenile detention centre, some immigrants and homeless people, and a family of Roma people.
A bit of info about the Roma people: Often called the Roma or the Romani people, they're also known as Gitanos in Spain, Kale in Finland and Portugal, Manush or Gitan in France and Travelers in Scandinavia. They’re gypsies, a people who have migrated throughout the world over the course of several centuries. They’re believed to be Hindi people, to have originated from Northern India.

4 equally vital appointments

After lunch, the Pope will devote some private time in prayer at the most widely celebrated Sanctuary of Our Lady of Consolata in Turin, then he’ll proceed to the Basilica of Mary Help of Christians to mark the 200th anniversary of the birth of St. John Bosco, the Marian basilica builder and founder of the communities of Salesian priests and sisters.
The sick, the disable, as well as the infirm, will have their rare chance of seeing Pope Francis, who will greet them in person in the Church of Cottolengo where they are assembled, then his last encounter for the day on Sunday on a vast city square will be with energetic thousands of young people.

Two targets before heading home

Pope Francis second day in Turin starts at the Valdese Temple, where an ecumenical meeting which is calculated to last an hour with some evangelical pastors will be held. Immediately after the meeting, the pope will return to the archbishop residence where some of his relatives are anxiously waiting for him. Pope Francis will meet them in private capacity, say a mass and enjoy lunch with them.
Pope Francis is expected to land at Rome’s Ciampino Airport at 6:30 p.m., Rome time, on Monday.
By 6:30 p.m. (Vatican Time), Pope Francis is scheduled to land at Rome’s Ciampino Airport on Monday, June 22.

Nice story .. Our Pope Francis lives up to the motto of putting the poor first before the politicians. At least he practises what he preaches; wish some politicians could follow his example. Turin in northern Italy I understand is very industrialised but is also wracked by unemployment ... so very good ge
