There are plenty of tourist attractions in Springfield Illinois. They would make for a great day trip, or even a week!

A lot of tourist attractions in Springfield to keep the young and young at heart busy for a day, or even a week!

Whether you are in Springfield for the week, or just for the day, you are going to find more than enough things to do. There are plenty of tourist attractions, most within walking distance of each other, to keep everyone from the young to the young at heart occupied and happy.

The Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library & Museum is a great stop for families. The Museum is open 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. daily. The Library is open Monday thru Friday, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m., and closed on Saturday and Sunday. Both locations are closed during major US holidays. For more information about this location, visit www.alplm.org.

The Illinois Executive Mansion, where a lot of state functions are held throughout the year, is located in downtown Springfield, just a few blocks from the Capitol. This is a high security location, and is not recommended for small children, unless they are old enough to know that they cannot touch things in the Mansion. Tours of the Mansion are free to the public and handicap accessible. Tours are available on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.

The Illinois State Capitol in downtown Springfield is a great location for school field trips, but also for people of all ages to visit. There is a lot of history behind the building and artwork inside. People are welcome to come in and listen to the House and Senate debate during various times throughout the year. Visitors will have to go through the security process when entering.

The Illinois State Fair is a major state attraction in Springfield every summer in mid-August. The Fair is big enough and lasts long enough that families often come and spend a couple of days, or even the week, visiting all of the attractions and shows going on throughout that time.

This is just a short list of various locations throughout Springfield for families to visit throughout the year. More information about other tourist attractions can be found on the Springfield Visitor's Bureau web site.
