In this short text I present a few of the most interesting festivals that will take place in the coming month around Spain.

A Marvelous Destination for Vacation

Everyone knows that you don’t need a special reason to be convinced that a trip to Spain is worth it. Spain is one of the most visited European countries due both to its islands (Majorca, Tenerife and so on) and to its urban centers (Barcelona, Madrid, Valencia among others). Spain is always a beautiful and interesting place to be; its citizens are welcoming and warm people, always set on partying, socializing or doing something fun. However, in case you have already spent some time partying in Ibiza and have already tasted the urban flavors of the always cool city of Barcelona, you could need something extra to make your holidays a bit more spicy.
In this short text I will present a few of the most interesting festivals that will take place in the coming month around Spain. Choose for yourself what fits best to your tastes and prepare for your next installment of marvelous Spanish holidays.

Barcelona International Jazz Festival

I can’t even count how much time must have passed since those days when jazz was still a musical genre that belonged to the underground. It might have taken a while for the world to understand that Miles Davis was a genius; thankfully for the rest of us, at some point they all agreed on it and here we are: Let it be jazz! In full light and in its full blossom! Today, jazz is rightfully considered a modern classic type of music. Jazz festivals today are a ‘must’ for every lover of music and Barcelona’s version of a jazz fiesta is an ideal choice. The 45th version of the festival will take place between the 19th of October and the 1st of December, with the participation of tens of artists and groups showing off their skills and talents.

Medieval Festival in Elche

Have you ever wanted to live during the…Medieval times? Well, this is your chance! The city of Elche is transformed annually into an imaginary fairy-tale-like medieval setting, celebrating in that way Spain’s, and the city’s itself, long history and culture. You will have the chance to shop at the medieval market, while various concerts, workshops and medieval theater plays will really make you feel like it’s the year of… 1500! Don’t miss the various re-enactments of medieval life that will take place in the streets. And don’t forget to mind those swords and spires!

Leon Cathedral International Organ Festival

For those with a little bit more demanding taste when it comes to culture and events, there is the International Organ Festival in Leon. It takes place for over 25 years now in the Cathedral of the city of Leon and in the church of Santa Maria La Real. This year it will be held from the 21st of September till the 20th of October, when a series of concerts from symphony orchestras, chamber groups and instrumentalists will perform for the audience.

San Sebastian Horror and Fantasy Film Festival

And now, if you are prone for something completely different, there is the San Sebastian Horror and Fantasy Film Festival! If the festival of Leon supposedly draws the attention of those of a more refined cultural taste and most likely middle aged people, the Horror and Fantasy Film Festival in San Sebastian can be proud of its youthful and playful audience. It is certainly one of the most celebrated film festivals of its kind worldwide. It was launched 20 years ago and it quickly became a meeting point for all of the film maniacs with… let’s put it that way, weird or alternative cinematic tastes! Older classics, sci-fi, horror and short films make the list of movies to be shown every year, with the winner prone to receive, except for the audience’s respect, a reward of 6.000 Euros. More than a film festival, there are many other activities, especially conceived to celebrate in a fun and entertaining fashion the days of the occult. There are street performances, exhibitions and many comic encounters to make your stay for the festival.

So here you have it: your visit to Spain can become even more interesting this time - if we take for granted that you have already tasted tapas and local wine from Andalucía, that is! Enjoy!
