This article is about Kerala, a state in the south-western part of India, Asia presently been called as the " God's Own Country". Kerala is definitely one of the beautiful places in the world that one must visit. It doesn't have any wonders of the world, but definitely Kerala is a wonder!!

Introduction

Kerala is one of the very few locations provided with unique and splendid geographical features. May be it's because of this, National Geographic Traveler selected Kerala as one of the 50 destinations of a lifetime and one of the 13 paradises in the world. It is one of the best tourist destination available in India. One should definitely go visit Kerala, truly God's Own Country.

Kerala - In Detail

Kerala was created on November 1, 1956 with the passing of the States Reorganization Act by the Government Of India. As usual, the Government of Kerala governs the state for 5 years after which an election is held to choose the next. Malayalam is the regional language here. Do you recognize the specialty of the word " Malayalam". It's a Palindrome(reads the same from forward and backward). Kerala is subdivided into 14 districts with Thiruvananthapuram as the capital. Also Kochi (Cochin), Kozhikode are other major cities here.

Malayalam is Kerala's official language also Tamil, Tulu, Kannada and various Adivasi(Tribal) languages are also spoken.

Kerala- A Heaven

As you can see from the pic, Kerala lies next to Arabian Sea. Kerala is known for its backwaters, traditional festivals and ayurvedic treatments. The most decent state of India has also got the best literacy rate of 94.59%, the highest in India. Kerala is also known for the best Tourist destination in India. Millions of tourists visit Kerala each season.

It would be right to say that there would be at least one keralite in each and every country in the world!!! It's so true.. Keralites are hard working and has a good mentality of helping people.. Kerala is the land of Coconut tree. Till recently, Kerala stood first for the most number of coconut trees available. Kerala is one of the best suitable places available in the world to find any type of flora and fauna.

The flora may be Sonokeling, Anjili, Erythrina, Cassia number, bamboo, wild black pepper, wild cardamom, etc where as the fauna may be Indian Elephant, Bengal Tiger, Indian Leopard, Nilgiri Tahr, Common Palm Civet, and Grizzled Giant Squirrel, King Cobra, viper, python and Mugger Crocodile.

Tourism in Kerala

As said earlier, Kerala is one of the most popular tourism destination in India. The tourism has been one of the major contributors of income for the state. With the developments of Kerala Tourism Development Corporation, Kerala started attracting tourists for wide variety of sources and with the most beautiful tag ever made- "God's Own Country". Popular attraction of tourism includes backwaters (an interlocking of a network of rivers), Kovalam, Varkala, Kappad, Muzhappilangad and Bekal beaches along with the hill stations of Munnar, Ponmudi, Nelliampathi and Wayanad. Kerala is also provided with national parks and wildlife sanctuaries at Periyar and Eravikulam National Park. Silent Valley National Park is one that everyone must visit.

The backwaters are a very special part of Kerala. Alleppey has some amazing birds like Woodpeckers which you can these days only otherwise see in cartoons. There are some beautiful lotus plants but very few people do tours that show people these unique things. See www.istay.in

God created Kerala
beautiful, with hills, valleys, meadows, fields and forests, with
rivers, rivulets and brooks running everywhere. Mountains and sea
shore kisses each other. They are never too distant from each other
anywhere. Climate, weather and water blessed Kerala and make it a real
Beauty Spot. The land is clean and the people are amiable, friendly
and traditionally hospitable. They have populated almost every nook
and corner of this world, representing Kerala eminently in their
delegative capacity.

But there are dark veins as well. Clouds, betrayal and greed co-exists
now with sunshine and shower, loyalty and selfless sacrifice.

Have anyone heard about anyone who wants to change his mother's name
just because it is not fashionable in his outlook and also because it
does not keep up with the newest trends? Kerala seems to have given
birth to such brutes too. Kerala is the land of Malayaalees, a name
endeared to hundreds of thousands of Malayaalees and Non-Malayaalees
in India and abroad for so many years. This name Kerala was derived
from Kera which means the Coconut Tree and Alam which means Where
Something Is In Abundance. Thus Keralam means The Land Of Coconut
Trees. This has ben known to the world and accepted by the world since
the time of Trans-Ocean Travels. This name has been being loved by the
whole world without any problem so far. But now some crooked-minded
people in Kerala are vigorously working on changing this beautiful,
meaningful and respected name of Kerala to suit their private needs.

They are simply aiming at the huge amounts of money they can pocket
through the immense contracts for effecting the change in name in the
millions of Governmental and other records, printed stationery,
display boards, buildings, vehicles, doors, carpets and even on
glasses and ash trays.

I live in kerala and consider it to be the greatest blessing. I was brought up in the city of kochi, but now live in a suburban rather rural village nearby and love the countryside. its great except for the occasional thunder and power cuts.

Half my life - over thirty years - spent in Kerala. A loving write-up but feel things can be so much better if the majority has its way in terms of unity than playing into the hands of wily, divisive and manipulative politicians. God has indeed been so kind to Kerala and its people - siva
