A look at the Catholic religion this season of Lent. Do we worship the right God?

Devotion to Catholic Mary

Satan has numerous devices to trick people to disobey God, drugs, busyness, false religions, materialism etc. He has collections of them and he would do everything to make you fall for at least one of them. Remember the devil is a roaring lion seeking someone to devour.

He has this thought on his mind, I got you...now I got you! you will love me more than you love God. Okay, this won't work for you...let see what will work for you...hmm..You see the devil is creative too! once in a while he gathers his cohorts and plan on how to deceive souls.....Jesus wants to snatch us from the hands of satan...Snatch them from the fire! is Jesus command to each of us.

But was it easy....we have been christian for 10 years and our household is the only christian in my father's side, 2 families from my mother's side and the rest of our relative are catholics who dont believe in us because they are better economically than us. In the 10 houses that surrounds our house, many are still Catholics, majority are Catholics, you can count on your fingers those who are Born again.

They still have statues of different sizes baby jesus, mama mary, our lady of fatima, our lady of manaog, holy family, san lorenzo, san francisco, crucifix, plus together with chinese lucky charms bagua, cat, frog, buddha all sorts of lucky charms while their bible they don't even care to read and they just display on their shelves to collect dust.

You know where i usually see the sto.nino it is front of the stores especially small drug stores. I dont know what is the purpose of the sto.nino there, maybe to watch out or guard the store from theft together with that a cat statue with moving arms inviting people to buy.

There are also sto.nino figures and mama mary figures or altars inside public vehicles like jeepneys that have collected lots of dirt. The same altar we worship at churches is just placed anywhere people want to. The reason is for lucky charm- protect them, bless them.

People will buy large images and put it in the house not to worship but to serve as Guardians, protectors of the house. Filipinos will risk their lives to touch the Black Nazarene in Quiapo, as if that image is miraculous when touched. Hello, it is just a statue it is not breathing! If you make some experiment, example you accidentally push one image and it falls straight to the ground, it will shatter into pieces if it is made of stone or will be broken if made of wood. Do you think it has power to make itself whole again, of course not, it has no power. Instead, that images can possibly house some ungodly spirit. Really images have no used, if that is the case, Jesus will make an image of God and bring it anywhere he goes so he could pray.

I have story with that Sto. nino, yes I admire that statue before because its cute, it has a red cape it holds a small globe, it has an angelic face. When I am small I participated in procession for that Sto. nino so I carry the image throughout the procession, but I am annoyed as the tip of the crown of that sto.nino scratched my chin as I carry it. So i never did that again.

One time, I had a deliverance session in our church and they pray that every generational curses or generational sin will be cut in my mother's side, you know what, the elder mentioned devotion to Mary but I did not react violently I am surprised when the elder prayed that devotion to Sto. Nino be cut, I reacted violently, I don't know I feel I am very strong I shouted as if someone is reacting to that prayer. They also mention consulting mediums and spirit guides and I also react violently, after that session the elders who prayed for me discovered that were the sins of my ancestors from my mother's blood line and I was healed. In fact I had many deliverance encounter experience not only that. It simply means to me that devotion to them is a sin and you need deliverance prayers, I cannot forget that, I was shouting like I am very angry but that was not me, I don't know where it came from, every time the word Sto. Nino is mentioned and they prayed for it to be cut, there was an angry voice coming out of me, I even vomit in one deliverance session. That goes to show many people have been dedicated to this statue without them knowing it until the spirit of God moves to heal people.

Was it easy to abandon this faith? of course not, catholic churches will close, catholic private schools will close, oldest university in the Philippines is catholic the University of Sto. Tomas, plus many catholic schools run by nuns. St. Marys. St. Paul, Mother of Perpertual Help, Immaculate Conception. They will run out of business you see.

The first christian school in our town was even threatened to be closed or not to be recognized by the Provincial Catholic church but thank God they are not successful, in fact there are Korean brethrens who also support this school.

Think Philippines, it Spain's legacy- the Catholic religion -. We are free from Spanish rule but yet we are not free spiritually, we are still in bondage to false religions, but thanks to Americans who brought Protestantism in the Philippines there are small groups of baptists, methodist, presbyterian, evangelical groups in the Philippines.

Think Phiippines, maybe its about time we wake up and open our Bibles and look at what God really wants and not what the priest wants. With this I pray for discernment and conversion of Philippines and that many eyes will be open from the spiritual blindness.

Exo 34:14 For thou shalt worship no other god: for the
LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God:

Do you see the word Jealous, God is a jealous God. Look we are not reading the Bible, instead of praying to Jesus we pray the long, repetitive prayers of the Rosary. Instead of praying directly to Jesus, we pray to Mary. We spend a lot of time and devotion to Mary we forgot Jesus altogether.

During the time of Jesus in the bible, one of his critics are the high priest or the religious people of that time, the scholars. Mary's role is simple and just to be the mother of Jesus not to be a goddess. I admire Mary and her character but that is enough. The sin of ancient, ancient people worshiping images and idols is the same up to this generation, a really big sin many has been trapped up to this time.

Have a great time for reflection this lenten season, see who is really sitting at the throne of your heart is that Jesus or Mary or other else. Remember God is a jealous God.

Exo 20:3 Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image,
or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above,
or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water
under the earth: 5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself
to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am
a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon
the children unto the third and fourth generation of
them that hate me; (to “serve” them = hate God)

God has been angry to us, if you really observed it, life has been always hard in the Philippines, no hope so far, our public officials are corrupt, rising poverty, the Philippines is lag behind in many aspect education, sports, economy by other Asian countries, we experience severe typhoons, flash floods, landslides and more..think Philippines.

Mary is everlasting detour! Go straight to Jesus and make your life simple. If you hear his Voice today speaking at you please take time to listen. Have a blessed Lenten season!

The person doing the wrong act should not reflect the image of a certain religion. Catholicism itself does not entail worshipping statues or idols. They are just images, like pictures that represent the faith. We worship Jesus directly. Mary was the chosen one among all women to be the mother of God, therefore she deserves respect and reverence. We don't worship her, but we give due respect to her. The space for comment is not enough but I can give you answers to everything you mentioned. And for your info, Catholics are Christians too because we are baptized in Christ. And most of all, being a Christian is reaching out to others and meeting others half way to make the world better and not to point out what's wrong with other religions, nor preach, nor correct what others are doing.

Mam Tess, I will just say this...salvation is 100% FREE...Jesus endure all the hardships for us to be save....If people will continue giving legal grounds for the Devil we will not be saved...Jesus know how difficult it is to be saved that is why He died for us...He knows where we are destined...We need to do our part to be saved...Jesus did half the job already..

Your page, Avery, is very enlightening, but surely we all worship Jesus, Son of God. Mary is Mother of Jesus, we are taught that Joseph is the Father. As Christians, this is what we believe and do we need to complicate this? No! We should not question each other. If some need the support of figurines, then who am I to question this? Thanks Avery. A well written page. I appreciate it.
