My Fascination with Water!!!!

It seems that everywhere I visit has a large body of water close to hand. It is almost enough to make folks think that I am deliberately going to places where there is water.

Introduction

I was raised by a mother that was terrified of water. I remember her getting nervous when we went to Alabama because we were about a mile or so from the gulf of Mexico. To say she was afraid was an understatement - she was horrified.

She was also afraid of storms and heights. I managed to get over the fear of the storms by watching a TV show, believe it or not. I still have the fear of heights.

Now the water has turned into a real enjoyment. Not, of course that I can get in the water-still can't swim, but looking at water and walking beside it. One of my favorite things.

New Orleans

This first picture is one taken when visiting in New Orleans, one of the many times that I visited before moving here. I have to be honest and say I am not sure if this is the Lake (Lake Pontchatrain) or the Mississippi River but I do know it is a beautiful body of water.

And now it is very close, well relatively at least, to where I live.

Maine

About six years ago, I fulfilled a lifetime dream and went to Maine. I had dreamed of this since I was about 15 and watched a showed called Dark Shadows. I finally decided, at the age of 55, that it was time I go if I ever was going to. So I put it on a credit card and went ahead and did it!!!

It was a good trip, I especially liked the mail ferry ride where I got to see all the islands off the coast that are "bedroom communities" for Portland. And of course, the water was the thing.

And then there was Pennsylvania

And then then is Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. This town is about 40 miles from where my father was raised and where his family still lives. I went there a few years ago as well. and wouldn't you know I found a body of water.

I also got to see three of my cousins - it was like a trip home., the home I never lived in.

And Finally Florida

In 2011, I lost several family members to death. One of my aunts that lived in Florida was one of those people. I wasn't, at that time, that close to her, and had not been in communication with her much for about 15 years.

However, my cousin (her daughter) and I were on good terms and she had asked me down. So after my aunt's death, i decided to take a trip there.

Again with the water. :)

Another one from Florida

And then while at my cousins we took a day trip down to Key West. Now that is 90 miles off the coast of Florida, and over water. That trip was, basically all about water.

Hope you have enjoyed my little tour of bodies of water that I have seen. :)

I have written in other places about some of those trips over the years, but I thought this was an interesting and different basis of writing about them. Glad you liked.

I mother also had a fear of water. She overcame because of her grandchildren liking to go swimming. They actually talked her into slowly. It was cute.
