My Best Vacation Ever

This article talks about my recent homecoming to my native country Philippines, the time I spent with family and friends, and the reason why I keep coming back.

My Longing to Come Home

It has almost been 4 years since I last came home. It has been that long since I last saw my family and friends. Being far from people I love makes me feel so homesick and keeps me longing to be with them at least for a short period of time.

This year, I was able to spend time with my loved ones again. My 28-day vacation has given me the opportunity to bond with my family and friends. As of this writing, my vacation is over, and it's time to go back to the United States. My bags are packed, and in a few hours, I will be heading to the airport and take my flight. I am not sure when the next time will be, but the memories I shared with my family and close friends will surely be something I will cherish.

It doesn't matter how far Philippines is, or how long I stay there. The quality of time spent with loved ones is priceless, and that's the reason why I always long to be home.

The Best One Ever

This has been the longest vacation I have had and I would say, the best ever. Not only did it give me enough time to visit the people who are dear to me, but I enjoyed each moment spent with them. I also had the opportunity to write and publish two articles for Wikinut, The 37th Bamboo Organ Festival and Best Tourist Attractions in Washington, USA. This one will be the third if I finish this and get it published before my departure.

One of the best things I experienced in this vacation was the opportunity for me to see and meet for the first time the two newest members of our family, my nephew Zach, 3 and my niece Caily, who just turned 2. The time I spent with them was so precious, I will miss them so much. Now, there are more reasons for me to come home often.

Time With Family

There was nothing more I could ask for than spending time with my family. Weekends are the best times to get together with them because of the fact that my nephews and nieces go to school on weekdays. I took every opportunity to bond with them as best as I could.

Family outings, strolling in the mall, visiting beautiful places, and dining out were a few things we did while I was on vacation. One special event that happened during my vacation was the celebration of my niece Caily's 2nd birthday on February 5th. The celebration took place in two ways. One was at Max's Restaurant where family members had a dinner, and the other one was at home where some children her age were invited. It was a special day for a very special person, our princess.

Best Friends Forever

One other reason why I keep coming home is to be able to be with my friends, who I consider the best ones I have. My former co-workers are like precious gems to me that I want to keep for life. Even when I left for the United States in 1996, our communication and the quality of friendship never changed. I am so lucky to have friends like them.

Like my family, my friends are very important to me. Each time I miss them, I can't help but reminisce the good old days we shared at work and the things we did during our spare time. I can say that distance never really matters as long as you care for each other and you keep your communication lines open. Of course, there is nothing better than seeing them in person and be with them once in a while and keep the best quality of friendship maintained.

During my vacation, I had a wonderful time being with them dining out and bonding with each other. It was so good to see them all after quite a while. I will surely miss them when I'm back in the United States.

There Is No Place Like Home

My 16 years' absence has not changed me in terms of who I am as a person. I may be an American citizen now, but I am still a Filipino in every way.

It was Winter time in the US when I left for my Philippine vacation, and the temperature was freezing. Then, when I came to Manila, the sun was always up and the weather was always warm. It was a sudden change for me weather wise, but it did not matter to me because I was more excited to see my loved ones than anything else.

I enjoyed the jeepney rides, eating Filipino food, and of course speaking my native language. I wasn't able to shop for summer clothes when I was in the US, so I made sure I did that while I was in Manila, and I had fun doing it.

I was able to see and be with my loved ones, and even on my last day of stay, I made sure I spent time with friends I have not seen for so long.

As I leave today and fly back to the US, I am having mixed feelings of happiness and sadness. I am happy that I was able to once again be with my family and friends. At the same time, I am sad because it will take a year or two before I get to see them again.

Philippines is my native home, and no matter how far it is, I will always come back. I will always cherish the time I spent and the memories I made. Indeed, there is no place like home. I love you, Philippines! I love you, Filipinos!
