Germany is one of the largest countries in Europe, and so there are a number of great cities to visit in Germany. Although the country only has a relatively small coastline compared to France, Germany has some impressive mountain ranges in the south which many tourists visit. These are a few of the great German tourist attractions.

Berlin

The capital of Germany is Berlin. This city includes the Brandenburg Gate which is among Germany’s most famous architecture. In Berlin three long sections of the Berlin Wall, that was torn down in the early ‘90s, are also still standing today. Berlin also includes the largest structure in Germany, the Fernsehturm Berlin which stands at over 300ft. This also includes a visitor platform which provides great views of the city, and a rotating restaurant. The Berlin Cathedral is also one of the more noteworthy German cathedrals.

Munich

The city of Munich in the south of German is famous for its beer and beer festivals. As such, Munich pubs and beer gardens are well stocked with Munich beers such as Helles. The city also has a number of galleries and museums such as the Deutsches Museum which is the largest science museum in Europe. The famous Neauschwanstien Castle is also located in southern Bavaria, along the Romantic Road, which is one of the more famous castles in Germany.

Garmisch

Garmisch is a mountain resort town close to the Austro-German border. This resort town is most famous for its mountain range, which includes the largest mountain in Germany: the Zugspitze. As such, Garmisch is a favourite destination for skiing, having previously hosted the Winter Olympics and World Ski Championship. However, even in the summer Garmisch can still be great to visit for mountain hikes along the German Alps.

Strasbourg Cathedral

Strasbourg Cathedral is one of the tallest cathedrals in Germany, and one of Europe’s biggest. The cathedral is approximately 142 meters high. As such, from the cathedral platform there are some great views of Strasbourg, and the cathedral also has guided tours.

Cologne Cathedral

Cologne Cathedral is the largest in Germany thanks to its twin towers which eclipse 150ft. As such, it is perhaps the most famous cathedral in Germany. Cologne Cathedral is a UNESCO heritage site, and guided tours of the cathedral are provided. For further details visit the Cologne Cathedral website.

These are just a few of the great places to visit in Germany. Visitors flock to Berlin, Garmisch, Munich in Bavaria, Cologne, and Strasbourg for the great mountain scenery, beer festivals, museums, castles, and cathedrals.
