A trip to Disney World can be a great time for the whole family, but the cost can really crimp the budget. Here are the tips we use to save a little money on the trip and ease the purse strings.

Where to stay

When my family goes we stay at one of the All-Star properties. They have the best of the prices and a family friendly theme. This last time we stayed at the All-Star Music in one of the family suites. I cost us about $700 more for our week long stay, but was well worth it for the amenities it had. The family suites have a separate bedroom, that sports it own TV and even a door. There are two bathrooms, and the living room with its own TV and both the couch and chair pull out into beds. The room also has a small kitchenette with a sink, mini fridge, and coffee pot.

The All-Star Hotels have two pools and 10 building for rooms, the main building has check-in, guest services, a food court, arcade, and gift shop. It is also where the Disney buses pick-up/drop-off. We never rent a car since all we do is Disney, instead we use the bus system to get us most everywhere.

Savings on Food

1) Bring your own breakfast food. In our case we bring instant oatmeal packages as well as some small bowls to go with them. Hot water can be obtained from either the beverage bar at the food court or from the coffee pot in your room if you have one.

2) Bring snack food for the parks, we have been able to take some in each day, just don't take in a full on meal as they won't let it in. This also means that we have snacks for our hotel room when we are watching TV in the evening before bed.

3) Disney has recently added a quick service dining plan that we plan to try out for our next vacation. It allows two counter service meals a day as well as two snacks as is close to the amount we would usually spend on food.

4) Rather than buying drinks, we bring water bottles and fill up at the fountains. Warning in that we find the Florida water to be a unique taste very different then Oregon water, so we bring the flavor packets for instant tea to cover the taste (no offense to those living in Florida).
