Why Marmaris would make a fantastic getaway for students on a budget.

Why Not?

In recent years it seems that Turkey has become a major tourist destination in Europe, rivalling hot spots like Spain and Greece. When I was just a tiny tot at three my parents and grandparents took me on holiday to Marmaris however after a bad experiences they vowed to never return. It was only late last year when I found my indifferent self saying "Yeah why not?" when a group of friends suggested a holiday there for the summer of 2010.
The try anything once approach to life worked out very well.

Why Marmaris?

After years of holidaying in small, quiet resorts in Greece with my parents I knew that going to Marmaris was going to be an experience. On arrival confusion with the hotel we were originally booked into and first sightings of flashing neon lights and the busy streets filled with tourists found myself and a close friend exchanging worried glances. We were taken to stay in an apart hotel in the Armutalan area of Marmaris and it seemed that the panic was over! Friendly staff and buy one get one free Sex on the Beach got us all into the holiday spirit.
The sun shone every day and there's plenty to do if lazing around a swimming pool isn't your thing. The beach is the perfect place to try water sports, boat trips run daily, a water park isn't far away and there are plenty of excursions to take you closer to the culture of Turkey. A Turkish bath is a must on the first few days to ensure a deep tan and a Jeep Safari makes a wild day out.
Marmaris doesn't stop when the sun goes down either. There are restaurants and bars aplenty and the clubs on Bar Street make for the best party you've ever had.

Budget Deal

Booking early in order to grab a cheap getaway is a must for anyone on a budget and so, students! In our case we booked in October for the following July to ensure our money went as far as possible. Inexpensive package deals may mean that flight times aren't exactly brilliant and the airline may be one you have never heard of but hey, if you get there who cares?
Having not yet entered into the euro it's easy to save the pennies in Turkey without adopting the nickname "Scrooge" or panicking about money halfway through the holiday and resorting to living off bread and continental cheese for the last week. Marmaris is of course an area heavily populated with holiday makers and this is not necessarily a bad thing as it results in businesses being in competition with one another and therefore good bargains!
The main club strip, Bar Street, is considerably more expensive than the bars on the beach front or further into the resort but if you're worried about splashing the cash a good tip is to visit a few bars on the beach before venturing to the night life.

Love It!

It's easy to see why Marmaris makes a great after-exams holiday for students. You have the chance to make your stay as busy or relaxed as you like, it's inexpensive and although the music stops at 3.30am the party never really does.
It's the time of any fun-loving students life!

I'm a student in limbo between leaving college in June and hopefully starting uni in September. The chances are that I could find myself with articles about anything and everything.
