A precis of a fortnight in the sunny resort of Kalkan, Turkey

Kalkan, the resort

Just shy of a 4 hour flight from Stansted airport, England is the beautiful resort of Kalkan, Turkey. Having been initially a little sceptical about spending a fortnight there, I must say I was more than pleasantly surprised.
First off, if you like sunshine, then this is the place for you!
The only clouds I saw for the entire fourteen days were 2 or 3 miniscule cumulus puff pastries perched atop the mountains that surround the location.
Beautiful vistas everywhere, due to the aforementioned mountains enveloped surprisingly by a carpet of trees. I for one was blown away by how arboreal Kalkan is!

Beautiful blue, turquoise waters shimmered in the 45 degree sunshine rays, making the scene picture perfect, day in, day out!

The locals, all of them bar none, are one of the friendliest nations of people if ever been fortunate enough to encounter. With civility beyond reproach, they couldn't be more helpful and accommodating, and I for one find that a major plus on a holiday.

Restaurants and entertainment.

A surplus of eateries serving everything from traditional fare to international cuisine can be found at the drop of a hat. One could be spoilt for choice constantly.
A mid afternoon glass of the local beer, Efes, served in an ice cold glass is nectar!

The only small downside I would say is the cost of eating/drinking out there. I anticipated it to be on a par with Cyprus et al, approx 70% of UK prices but I found it was nearer 100%. Oh well, it didn't take the shine off too much!

There are plenty of excursions if one doesn't want to just laze all day but the pick of them for me was a late afternoon/evening boat cruise around a handful of bays in the resort. One stop was in a bay that had natural springs bubbling from the seabed and one could swim 10 metres experiencing water temperature changes from almost freezing to very warm, amazing!

After a beautiful dinner spread of barbecued chicken, lamb and steak served with several mouth watering salads etc, the highlight for me was a final dip in the sea in the darkness of the night. A glance upwards to the pollution-free night sky displayed an awe inspiring array of thousands of stars and even some of the gaseous clouds of the milky way! A never before intense experience that I will never forget.

All too quickly, two weeks elapsed in what seemed like 2 days.

Kalkan, I'll miss you !!
