Jabalpur - Madhya Pradesh State - India

Jabalpur is the 26th largest city in India but whence actual agglomeration is taken into account its ranks higher. The city once engulfed by forests all around still retains its greenery to a very large extent. Some drives deliver an old world charm with thick tree line and bush all around.

Jabalpur city still retains its panoramic splendor which spellbinds many visitors. Situated in a cauldron it is surrounded by the hills of Satpura and Vindhya Ranges. The Seoni Hills are densely forested and form a ring around one half of the town. The Bargi Hills and the hills of neighboring Mandla encircle the city. On the other side towards the North the Jabalpur District is surrounded by Kharmor hills of Vindya Range.

River Narmada flows through the town from Amarkantak via Mandla. It creates a stunningly beautiful gorge at Marble Rock or Beraghat. The river tumbles down at Dhuandhar Falls with great force and enters the gorge. The gorge is the best place for boating on Narmada. The ride cuts across marble rock swathed in hues of colors and plethora of shapes that mesmerize and awe. There no place like this on Earth.

There are numerous water bodies spread around the town with four or five being very large. Most of the city is open with some congested areas typically called the "city". The elite residential areas are in picturesque settings with lot of serenity and peace. The important places are easily approachable and the traffic is tolerable. Hence Jabalpur is well liked by the retirees. .

The large city has all the modern amenities and services to offer and is HQ of many administrative services including the railway and defense. Comparatively private industries are limited and the people depend upon the Government Sectors for livelihood. The trading is substantial and the city acts as a feeder to all the neighboring townships which together comprise the Mahakaushal Region.

It acts as a gateaway to Kanha, Bandhavgarh, Satpura and Pench National Parks besides the Pachmarhi & Amarkantak Hill Resorts. The Central Indian agglomeration is well connected by rails from all over the country. Flights operate between Mumbai and New Delhi besides the cities in Madhya Pradesh.

There are numerous hotels in Jabalpur that provide luxury accommodation. For budget stay the local lodges and guest houses offer cheap tariff. The city has all kinds of restaurants and local eateries include old time coffee houses which are the hall mark.

Other places of interest are the Bargi Reservoir & Water Sports Complex, Madan Mahal Fort, Dumna Nature Reserve, Pariyat Lake and Lameta Ghat etc. At least two days of stay is required for tour of Jabalpur.
