Tourists who love sea and watersport will find Tobago Cays fascinating. It is filled with coral reefs and fish. One could also visit the nearby St.Vincent and the Grenadines for more watersport action.

Getting to Tobago Cays Marine Park

One can only reach the Marine Park by sea. Water taxis, day charters cruise ships or private yachts stop by with their excited tourists. Airports close by are located on Union Island, St. Vincent, Canouan and Grenada.

Inside the Marine Park

Authorities ask tourists to watch out certain things.
a) Brooding birds
b) Delicate corals
c) Out of season fish
d) Cleanliness
e) Preserve vegetation
Ecological balance is important and one must not upset them by breaking of corals or disturbing birds that are mating. Corals take a long time to grow and snorkelers have to watch their movements. Vegetation of this place is also unique and one must not destroy them.

Taking care when you are there

Tourists visiting Tobago Cays must not buy fish when visiting out of season, which is from May onwards until August. Yachters must also abide by those rules that tell them to moor only at those mooring provided and not drop anchor in sea grass beds where corals might be present.

Attractions present at Tobago Cays


a) Mayreau Gardens: This is a coral reef with plenty of fish and marine life.
b) Purunia Wreck: British gunship dating back to 1918 wrecked off the coast serves as an attraction for divers.
c) Baradal Turtle Sanctuary: This protected place is breeding ground and nesting place for hawksbill and green turtles.
d) Horse Shoe Reef: Another coral reef site for underwater explorers. One can do snorkeling on inner shore side while scuba diving takes place on the ocean side.
e) Petit Bateau, Petit Rameau, and James Bay: Hiking trails resplendent in rich flora and fauna, iguana and local birds. This place provides a splendid view of entire Grenadine Islands.
f) Catholic Rock Bird Sanctuary: This is brooding and nesting place for a variety of sea birds. One can observe them close up from a boat using binoculars.

Tobago Cays Short Distance from St. Vincent and Grenadine Islands

For tourists who want extra water-sport activity, there is the St. Vincent and Grenadine Islands just a short distance away. This place offers plenty of snorkeling, diving and water-sport activities like yachting and sailing. In addition, there are spectacular beaches with dry, white sand, perfect for sunbathing.
