I-55 is a major north-south Interstate Highway that runs through the middle of the United States. This is the Parish in which I have lived 43 years and this interstate is the way I travel everyday.

Interstate 55 in Louisiana

I-55 runs 963.5 miles from I-10 from LaPlace, Louisiana to about 25 miles west of New Orleans to US 41 in Chicago, Illinois. In Louisiana, I-55 runs through two parishes which are Tangipahoa and St. John the Baptist. Traveling south on I-55 from the city of Kentwood, Louisiana you can see these cities which are Tangipahoa, Roseland, Amite, Independence, Tickfaw, Hammond, Ponchatoula and LaPlace.

I-55 is maintained by the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development. Major junctions to the interstate are I-10 in LaPlace, I-12 in Hammond, and I-55 at the Mississippi line. Currently I-55 is under construction. When finished it will offer travelers a newer smoother ride.
