Alaska is the largest state in the U.S.A and is a place of startling beauty. It has a large expanse of pristine wilderness and has something for everyone. This state is a wonderland for outdoor activities such as fishing, backpacking, hunting, kayaking, hiking and skiing among many others. This is the perfect place to visit if you love water sports because it has an extensive coastline and more than 3 million lakes.


Current job market in Alaska


Alaska’s current job market is the third best in the United States. This is according to data gathered from the Manpower Outlook Survey. This survey is conducted quarterly in the U.S.A to measure the intentions of employers to decrease or increase the number of employees they have. Survey results are based on interviews with eighteen thousand employers in the fifty states, Puerto Rico and the District of Columbia.


From April 2013 to June 2013, twenty seven percent of the companies that were interviewed expect to hire more employees while five percent expect to reduce their employees. Another sixty six percent expect to maintain the number of employees they have. Two percent of the companies interviewed stated that their hiring plans are not certain. The net employment outlook therefore stands at twenty two percent.


Job prospects in the coming quarter appear best in non durable goods manufacturing, construction, utilities and transportation, retail and wholesale trade, professional and business services, information, health services, education, leisure, government and hospitality. Job prospects in financial activities, durable goods manufacturing, financial activities and other services are not expected to change much.


Places of interest for travel


Alaska’s beauty is breathtaking and there are many attractions to see in this state. One of these attractions is Mount McKinley which is North America’s highest peak. This mountain is also an attractive sight when you catch its alpenglow at Denali National Park’s Wonder Lake. It is common to see large 900 pound brown bears catching salmon on Kodiak and Admiralty Island.


The city of Juneau, which is the capital city of Alaska, is also one of the most sought after tourist destinations in this state. You can access this city by air or by water. It offers many amazing attractions such as museums, theaters and art galleries. It also offers an excellent backdrop of glaciers, mountains, pristine water bodies and a host of exciting cultural activities.


When visiting Juneau city, you can also check out historically important sites like the Juneau-Douglas City museum and the Alaska State Museum. The Alaska State Museum has a great exhibition on indigenous people of Alaska and its history. The Juneau-Douglas City Museum houses contemporary art, totem poles and historical art that reflects the history of the region. These museums aim to preserve the region’s values and cultural heritage.


You can also visit the Alaska zoo which is home to many types of animals and birds. This zoo has animals native to Alaska as well as exotic animals like elephants and tigers. Other attractions in Alaska include the Aviation Heritage Museum, the Elmendorf State Hatchery, the Imaginarium, Pioneer Park and Mount Robert Tramway among others.

Alaska was previously known for having a higher ratio of men over women but this is no longer the case. Strange facts about Alaska


Some facts about Alaska are unique or even strange. For example, this state’s coastline is longer than that of any other state. It runs for 6,640 miles more than the coastlines of all other states combined.


Another strange thing about Alaska is that it has more than one hundred volcanoes and volcanic fields that have been active within the last one and a half million years. More than forty of these volcanoes have been active in historic times and account for about eighty percent of all active volcanoes in the U.S.A and eight percent of all active above water volcanoes in the world.


This state also has the largest number of active glaciers in the world. About 100,000 glaciers cover almost 5% of the state. Alaska has the lowest population density (1.2 people per square mile) but is not the least populous state. Alaska also has the highest mountains in the United States. Seventeen of the twenty highest mountains in the U.S.A are found in Alaska. This state does not collect an income or sales tax since it mostly depends on federal subsidies and oil revenues.
