Indian Luxury Tours – A New Way To Travel In Luxury

There are lots of ways to travel around India, but most of the options aren’t very efficient or punctual. Whilst trying to get around is half the fun of the experience, many aspects of your tour will be determined by deadlines (such as your flight home) so you need to make sure that you arrive on time. In this article, we have outlined the transport you may encounter on your Indian luxury tour:

• Planes
The country’s remote mountains and offshore regions are all reachable by plane, making this one of India’s most efficient modes of transport. A word of warning about check in and security, however – lines can be huge, especially in Delhi and Mumbai, so arrive early and ensure your luggage is as prepared as possible (ie packing liquids appropriately).

• Buses
The second most popular way of getting around, whilst you can’t go across the country by bus it is an affordable way of reaching places that aren’t on the rail network. Every state has its own public bus service, and there are usually multiple classes of bus. There are also luxury or express buses available, which are well worth the extra expense.

• Trains
India has 7 class types to choose from, unlike other countries which tend to have only 2. For long distance travel, it is recommended to book on either The Rajdhani or Shatabdi – both trains are completely air conditioned and include breakfast, lunch and dinner in the ticket price, all of which are served at your seat during transit.

• Luxury Trains

For the ultimate Indian luxury tour, you should book yourself a seat on one of the luxury trains– there are currently 5, offering twelve signature journeys to major tourist destinations. These trains are all inclusive for accommodation, dining, sightseeing, transportation and porter charges, and each is equipped with state of the art amenities.

In big cities, pre-paid taxis can be found in areas like airports or stations. They will save you money as well as the hassle of bargaining – just be aware of scammers who claim to be running pre-paid taxis. Collect your receipt from the counter – one part is your reference and the other is handed over to the driver at the completion of the journey.

• TokTok’s
Also known as an auto-rickshaw, this is the most common means of hired transportation in India. They aren’t suitable for long distances but are handy for short distances in cities, as they can weave their way through small alleys. When paying, you can either negotiate the fare or go by the meter (in almost all cases, it’s best to go by the meter).

• Motorbike Rental
More daring tourists will often suggest motorbikes as the best way to experience the country. This is not for the faint hearted or inexperienced riders, as India has the highest number of motor vehicle accidents in the world. When you have booked a motorbike tour, your guide will arrange the bike rental for you, ensuring it is reliable.

• Car Rental
Although the central government has been upgrading highway in the largest cities over the last few years, not all of the roads are up to international standards. The streets are also extremely chaotic with the average village or city road being narrow and full of potholes – this is probably the least attractive option.

The good news is that if you have booked a guided Indian luxury tour or family holiday packages in India, they will handle all transportation arrangements for you. This can give you peace of mind that you will arrive where you need to be with plenty of time to spare. If you are interested in travelling a particular way around India, be sure to bring this up with your guide – they may be able to make it happen.
