The varied coastline of KwaZulu-Natal offers the angler the opportunity to pit their skills against the giant sharks and rays as well as the many fish that abound our coastline. We have a spectacular selection of Lakes, Dams and rivers stocked with abundant and varied species of freshwater fish...

Durban and Surrounding Areas.

The Indian ocean also offers many species of deep sea, and the paddle ski, jet-ski or ski-boat angler can target Natal snoek, King Mackerel, Dorado, Tuna, Sailfish and Marlin to name just a few. All saltwater anglers need a fishing permit and these are obtainable from any local Post office.

Lake Jozini

North of Durban Lake Jozini offers the world famous Tiger fish. These aggressive fish are a favorite for many fresh water anglers and can be caught with bait, spinner or fly.Jozine offers both lodge type accommodation and camping facilities.

Breathtakingly Beautiful Rivers And Chalets

When one takes a languid drive around our beautiful country, our rugged coastline with it's many little towns and hamlets and inland to the vast rivers lakes and dams, the natural scenery takes your breath away. Many restful scenes abound like comfortable, clean chalets built out of rock, carved from the nearby mountains.

Other Popular Fresh Water Species Of Fish.

Another fresh water fish species, is the large mouth bass. These are found in most of our large dams, like Inanda, Albert Falls, Midmar, Goedertrou and Bivane. The most successful lure for these fish will be plastic baits which come in a variety of shapes and colors. Crank baits, poppers and spinner baits are also quite successful and it would be a good idea to carry a small variety of those in your tackle box. Many stories abound of 6 to 7 kilogram fish being caught in these waters.

Rainbow And Brown Trout

Other freshwater fish which occur widely are Rainbow trout and brown trout. Stillwater fishing is plentiful and there are many farms offering self catering accommodation which is usually right on the water's edge.
Fly fishing in stillwater for these fish can be very rewarding. Several fast flowing rivers in the area are also well stocked withe both Rainbow as well as Brown trout.

Several other Impressive Fish Species Occur Here.

The famous Natal Yellowfish are also plentiful in the lower warmer reaches of the Umkomaas, Umgeni and Tugela rivers. Also Carp, Barbel (Catfish) and Tilapia are found in our dams.

I liked fishing but I do not have that patient to follow. Rather I watch fishermen fishing with nets. Thank you for sharing your nice article.

Hello Siva, yes indeed we do have such a variety to choose from, and the facilities are excellent for spectators enjoying the crisp and clear mountain air. With India's president visiting us at the moment, with a view of investing several Billion $ in our country, I'm sure excursions to our shores will be very affordable indeed. She certainly seems to enjoy our province KZN, where she visited the Mahatma Gandhi memorial today, which is very near two of the lakes I mention in the article Why not bring over a tour group and spend a few days away from the laptop? lol

Great star, my friend. Do you think the sea will have enough to feed the world as its population grows further? Thank you for sharing.
