Devon in England's West Country is one of the great places to visit in the UK. Here are a few great reasons to visit Devon.

The Coastline

Devon has stretches of coastline in both the north and south. This coastline has a number of great beaches, particularly in north Devon. In the north there are beaches such as Ilfracombe, Croyde, and Saunton. Such Blue Flag beaches are great for water sports such as surfing and kayaking. In the south of Devon lie beaches such as Blackpool Sands near Dartmouth. This beach also includes nearby tropical gardens with a variety of plantations. Aside from the beaches the dramatic coastline can also be great for some cliff-side walks and Devon includes the South West footpath which stretches some 630 miles.

Torbay

The Torbay region of Devon is great for holidays. Here, the coastline of Torbay includes the seaside towns of Torquay, Brixham, and Paington. Any of these towns is worth a visit, with the likes of Torquay including a variety of notable destinations. In Torquay there are the ruins of Torre Abbey, Living Coast zoo, and Babbacombe Model Village which includes a great collection of model buildings set alongside colourful landscaped gardens. Torquay also links to the other towns of Torbay via boat trips from its marina.

Dartmouth

Also on the south side of Devon lies Dartmouth. The town of Dartmouth lies on the River Dart and is opposite Kingswear. From here, there is the Dartmouth and Paignton steam railway which runs from Kingswear through to Paignton. Also in Dartmouth lies Dartmouth castle on the River Dart estuary which is open to visitors. Just beyond the town is Blackpool Sands. This is one of the best beaches in Devon which includes a beach cafe', shop, and nearby Blackpool gardens.

National Parks

Devon includes two notable national parks. Near to Plymouth is Dartmoor National Park which covers approx hundreds of miles of moorland. Dartmoor also includes the Dartmoor steam railway, as well as the Totnes steam railway which links to nearby Buckfastleigh. In addition to this, there is also Exmoor National Park in north-east Devon which lies by the coastline. These parks have great landscapes and are great for hiking.

So, these are a few great reasons to visit Devon. Torbay and Dartmouth are great for holidays in Devon, and the national parks and coastline are also great places to visit in the UK. For further details, the visit Devon website is recommended.
