From the funky Big Chicken in Marietta, Georgia, to the sophisticated outdoor Stone Mountain Park, nothing is like Georgia. And all the flora and fauna unique to the area. Come with me on a visit hosted by a Georgia native, an original Georgia Peach!

Ahh The Pines

The most amazing thing I have noted about Georgia relative to other states is the beauty of the pine trees. And their sheer number is astounding. No where else may you go and see such extraordinary display of the massive pine. Other states have them, but Georgia is the Queen of the pines.

Just breathe in. You will smell the pines! And underneath the ideal cover are the azalea bushes known all over the south. But the beauty and length of the southern growing season puts the Georgia azalea on top. Especially the native colors of white, deep pink and an almost reddish pink.

Next to those azaleas, don't forget what Georgia plantations are probably most famous for, the magnolia trees. They are massive.

Stone Mountain Park

This park is state owned and operated. No where else will you find a park that has something for everyone. From a restaurant that grows it own fare in the vegetable garden you may visit, to an old cabin in the woods for the youngsters, every is sure to find something to treasure.

The chapel featuring a pipe organ may be heard on the steamboat ride around the lake. And the village that has everything from a game arcade for the kids to blacksmith demonstrations for the older folks. You may even watch glass creations being hand blown. And then the railroad offers daily shows year round for entertainment and special rides during the holiday season. When you can roast marshmallows and enjoy a rendition of The Night Before Christmas by the campfire.

But my favorite part of Stone Mountain is the laser show on the mountain at dusk seasonally. There is no other place that has a natural backdrop. And I have seen some spectacular lasers shows, and none can touch the Stone Mountain one. Disney, eat your heart out!

The Big Chicken

Let's not forget the most famous redneck landmark this side of the Mississippi. It's a bird, it's a plane, no....it is the Big Chicken a top a KFC restaurant in Marietta, Ga.

It features moveable, animated eyes and beak and is often used for directional purposes. Go the Big Chicken and hang a right, then....
