Torquay is a seaside resort town located in Torbay, Devon. Torquay has plenty of highlights and great places to visit when taking a vacation there. These are five great places to visit in Torquay.

The Babbacombe Model Village

The Babbacombe Model Village is located just a few miles off Torquay’s seafront. The Model Village includes a variety of miniature buildings set alongside four acres of award winning and colorful landscaped gardens. When the darkness falls the model village is lit up and illuminated. Aside from the village miniature railways and a fully animated circus are also included. In addition to this, Babbacombe Model Village also has a 4D cinema which provides a number of films such as Robin Hood 4D.

Kents Cavern

Kents Cavern is also within walking distance of the seafront. At Kents Cavern you can take a guided tour of the Kent Cavern caves. In addition to this, Kents Cavern also documents the history of the caves excavation work which dates back to the 19th century at the Great Chamber.

Cockington Court and Village

Cockington Court and Village is little more than a mile off the Torquay seafront. Here there is the thatched cottage village of Cockington Village which includes tea shops and inns. From here you can take a carriage ride from the village up to Cockington Court. Cockington Court is a craft shop set among hundreds of acres of parkland that includes organic gardens, rose gardens and lakes. The Manor House also has an adjacent horse and stable with crafts centers such as glass works and blacksmiths. As such, Cockington Court is one of Torquay’s highlights.

Torre Abbey

The renovated and refurbished Torre Abbey is located near to the seafront. Outside Torre Abbey there is an exotic garden and greenhouse that includes a wide variety of plants such as Bougainvilleas, Strelitzia and Orchids as well as plants of some historic interest. In addition to this, of course you can go in the Abbey which has art galleries with a variety of oil paintings among the other artifacts which are included at Torre Abbey.

Living Coasts

Located on the Torquay Marina is Living Coasts. Living Coasts is Torquay’s coastal zoo that includes a variety of coastal wildlife. At Living Coasts there are penguins, seals, sea ducks and wading birds. Living Coasts also has indoor aquariums.

Babbacombe Model Village, Living Coasts, Torre Abbey, Cockington Court and Kents Cavern are five of the great places to visit when in Torquay. For further details the Torquay website is worth noting. Or, alternatively, other Torbay websites such as this one also cover Torquay.
