Intro

Europe is full of fascinating countries and a range of indescribably lovely landscapes. Choosing which country to visit is not always easy, but there are some countries which will continue to be enduring favourites with the holidaying masses - for very good reasons. Here are three countries which were extremely popular in 2014:

France

Frequently topping lists of the most popular tourist destinations in Europe, the Gallic splendours of France have an enduring appeal. Whether it is lapping up the love in the city of lights, Paris, one of the most romantic holiday destinations in the world, sampling the haute cuisine or touring the creme de la creme of the countries vineyards, France will always deliver a chic, sophisticated vacation. From the battlefields and cultural history of the North to the ski chalets and trendy resorts of the Alps, to glamorous sailing vacations on the mediterranean sea from the French Riviera, France, it seems, just continues to deliver. Over 81 million people visit France each year, and no wonder, with so many varied holidays on offer.

Croatia

Beautiful, sun-drenched Croatia has become an extremely popular holiday destination. Not least because of the locations used in the filming of the TV series, "Game of Thrones" - those crooked alleyways and towering spires of the mediaeval city of Dubrovnik glowing redly in the warm sunshine next to a sparkling aquamarine ocean have made everyone want to visit these fantasy locals. With over one thousand islands dappled over the Adriatic, there is absolutely no shortage of sailing locations - simply visit one of the charter in Croatia and start exploring them. Yacht moorings in secluded bays and quaint harbours have made this the European destination for a boat trip par excellence. Whether you want to soak in the rays on one of Croatia's blessed beaches, party up a storm in one of the glamorous towns with nightlife to die for, or explore the historical sights and feel like you have travelled back through the mists of time to a bygone era, Croatia is a summer location that you will want to return to again and again.

Spain

Stupendous Spain also holds enduring appeal for foreign guests, in part due to its climate and culture. In spite of the financial troubles of the times, Spain continues to be one of the most popular holiday destinations in Europe. The Spanish may still be reeling from the recession, but they are wallowing in a wealth of historic and cultural riches. Whether it is to visit the arty visions of Barcelona or Madrid, to roam on roads through dusty backwaters, dappled orange groves or through villages replete with Moorish architecture, or to relax on the beaches on Spain's golden coastline. Spains islands also enjoy evergreen popularity, and sailing off the shore or jetting off to island outposts like the Canaries always has enduring appeal.

Whether you dine finely in sophisticated France, cruise the movingly magical Croatian islands, or soak in the Spanish sun, you are sure to realise why so many tourists before you have chosen to spend their vacations in the diverse locations of these very special countries.
