Few days we spent at Easter time in the Greek island of Agistri. I talk about the hotel where we stayed (Oasis Scala Beach), the people we met there and the sporting activities we carried out.

Agistri, also known as diamond of the Argosaronic gulf

The green of the many pine trees and turquoise clear waters turn Agistri into a small Greek island paradise, only an hour ferry ride from the Piraeus port.

The island is also known as the diamond of the Argosaronic gulf and it was there that my family decided to spend a few days during our Easter holidays.

Transportation

We flew Graz - Vienna - Athens and then took a bus to Pireaus, where we took the ferry to Agistri. At first we could not find our hotel, so we called and they came to pick us up! We then arrived at the hotel, where we picked a room with view of the pool and beach. It was very comfortable there and we spent many happy moments sitting in the balcony enjoying the weather and view. As the hotel had Internet service we called our relatives in Australia to tell them about our holiday and so they could wish my son a Happy Birthday!

Hotel service

The person running the hotel was very friendly and helpful, as were all his employees. We also met some of the other guests while sitting in the bar and we had nice talks in English and even German! We chose a table near the beach and we used it for most of our meals. The food was so good in the hotel that we ate there most of the time. My son celebrated his birthday on Saturday and they even prepared a surprise birthday cake for him, something he was not expecting! Employees and guests came to wish him a Happy Birthday, while we took pictures to send to the rest of the family who could not be there, unfortunately.

Walking and cycling

We rented some bikes to cycle up the hill, so we could take pictures and it was worthwhile, as the view was amazing and we also found many wild flowers on the way! Rentals were relatively cheap, but the only problem was that my son fell from the bike, tore his jeans and scratched his leg!

Cats, dogs and coffee

It was our custom to go to drink a cup of coffee in the afternoons and we saw some dogs, but I had never seen so many cats before! Our coffee place was a good spot to observe people and activities around us!
Close to our coffee place we also found a shop and it was there that we found some honey and local sweets to take back with us as presents.

Greek Orthodox Easter

The Greek celebrate Easter later than they do in Austria, but the amazing thing was to see how seriously they all took it! So as to prepare for the visitors that would come then, people started painting tables, benches, signs and planting flowers and climbing pants, so everything would look better! It was nice to see the Greek people being so proud!
When we returned to Graz we were disappointed to find out that there was a ferry strike and wondered how that would affect our new found friends and their Easter!

Back to Athens

For our return to Athens, Makis, one of my husband's former Greek employees, picked us from the port and took us to Athens Airport so we could take our plane back to Vienna and then Graz. I had never seen Athens before, but I was pleasantly surprised, as it is quite a pleasant city, with many pink bushes in bloom!
After having enjoyed a few days with temperatures around 20°, it was almost a shock to be greeted by cold weather and even snow in Vienna and cold wind in Graz! We were back in the real world now!
