On 10th April 2014, Scottish Emirates Pilot Captain Ian Weir landed one of the world's largest commercial aircraft at Glasgow Airport.. marking the Airline's ten year link with Scotland.
This 'first time' exciting event drew in widespread media coverage and a huge volume of spectators, read on to find out more...

Touchdown...

Emirates brought thousands of aviation fans together when it operated a one-off A380 service at Glasgow Airport, to mark it's 10 year anniversary and continued commitment to Scotland.

It was the first time a Scottish airport has ever welcomed an Airbus A380, the world’s largest commercial passenger aircraft.
It stands over 24 metres high and with a wing span of nearly 80 metres.

Spectators from across the country turned out to gather at the airport’s perimeter and other vantage points for the arrival of this majestic aircraft.

Local Boy Flies High...

Piloted by Clydebank boy Iain Weir, the giant Emirates A380 'Super Jumbo' touched down at Glasgow Airport for the birthday party.

Captain Weir said he was extremely honoured to be part of this Scottish Aviation history.
He was especially delighted to have flown this 'beauty' over his old school when approaching to land at Glasgow Airport.

Ian Weir set his sights on training to be a pilot from the age of eight years old.

Captain Weir successfully qualified for his pilot's license as a teenager, now at the age of 43, he has been a pilot with Emirates for a decade himself.
Ian was actually the co-pilot on the first Emirates flight out of Glasgow 10 years ago.
On learning the airline was bringing an A380 to Glasgow, Captain Weir put in a personal request to his superiors, asking if he could be considered as the pilot for this very special event.

Welcoming Party..

The Emirates A380 super jumbo landed safely at Glasgow Airport at 12:35 in the afternoon.
The official welcoming reception rolled out the red carpet in celebration of the 10th anniversary of the launch of scheduled services between Dubai and Glasgow.

Oh So Superior Interior...

The stunning interior design of the Emirates A380 is compatibly fashioned to a standard befitting the magnitude of this magnificent aircraft.

Business Class and First Class facilities.. put the L in Luxury.. equivalent to the standard of accommodation to be found within a five star hotel.. providing the essence of comfort and convenience for the long haul traveller.

And Off She Goes...

Following a three hour duration at Glasgow Airport..the much admired, filmed and photographed Emirates A380... took off into the skies again at 15.35.

Doesn't time fly when we're having fun!!
