Where in this US of A can one go to vacation and not have to go back to work to recover? How about enjoying the 'silence' a small remote town has to offer. Sound good? Read on.

Relax, Renew, Rejuvenate; Hot Springs!

Hustle bustle day to day, just try to find some time to play - or maybe just relax and rest and rejuvenate? So you want to plan the vacation, but just doing that is exhausting? Why don't you consider going on a vacation where you don't have to go back to work to recover. Yes, vacations can be stressful and so full of activity that you don't feel at all rested. Especially when you are the Mom or Dad. Here's a sweet alternative - but don't tell the whole world, we can only sleep a couple hundred a night in the whole town.

Welcome to Big Sky Country

Welcome to Montana! The little town of Hot Springs (Yes, that is the NAME of the town) is located on the Flathead Indian Reservation between Missoula and Kalispell. As you turn off the secondary highway onto the shortest highway in the US, you will be approaching the town of Hot Springs where water is hot and has been reported to be second in the world to Baden Baden, Germany in mineral content. Everyone in town is going to know you are visiting, since there are just over 600 of us here and we know all our local faces.

Walk Around the Tiny Town

The town is 80 acres turned into an 8 X 10 block hamlet that sits up against the timbered Lolo National Forest. Downtown is only two blocks long, but sports a bank, senior center, vets office, city offices, cop shop, two bars, a liquor store and gift shop, a second hand shop, an antique shop, a 'Gambles' store, two hair dressers, a frame/bead shop, a health food store, the phone company, an herb shop and a little park where artists, farmers and vendors meet to create a 'scene'. If you spend any time at all you will find that the town is full of characters, artists, cowboys and indians.

'Home of the Healing Waters'

There are four different places to soak in the healing mineral waters. Three in town, the fourth being just outside of town. Keep in mind that this is not a resort mecca - more like a well-kept secret. Bring your own robe if you want, and it's perfectly acceptable to walk around town in it. You might want to bring a couple of swimsuits so you don't have to try to put on a wet one. Bring some books you've been meaning to read, or some writing ideas you've been longing to lay down. Trust me, you are going to LOVE it! Tell 'em LoriAnne sent you!
