Discription and authors own views on this tranquill island on the western coast of Scotland.

Davaar Island.

Davaar Island is situated off the coast near Campbelltown, and Campbelltown is at the bottom of the Mull of Kintire, western Scotland. Myself and my wife have been there three times now as we lked it so much.

The island is very small with three holiday cottages and a lighthouse. To get to the island you have to wait untill low tide when you can walk or drive along the causeway to the island. So shopping and sightseeing must be planned carefully as at high tide you cannot get to or travel from the island.

When you hire a cottage it is ideal for fishing, bird watching and watching small boats of all types coming and going from the port of Campbelltown.

Campbelltown itself has the gulf stream flowing towards it and so is able to have palm trees growing along the coastline. If you want to be with nature, have peace and quiet, then I cannot recommend Davaar island enough. In Campbelltown itself there are two supermarkets, plenty of hotels and restuarants, banks and shops as well as one petrol station. So to stock up with food etc., causes no problems.

At the back of the island are some caves, and one of them has a cave drawing of Jesus Christ inside it, I did find this a bit eerie when I paid a visit. From the Mull of Kintire there are quite a few ferries about which will take you to various different islands.

This is Scotland at it`s best - Enjoy !
