Classic Maine Weather

The last day of our stay in Arcadia National Park.

A real pea-souper!

We awoke on the last day of our stay to thick fog covering the bay, we couldn't even see the end of the pier! As it wasn't really swimming weather we went for a drive to explore the west side of Mount Desert Island.

Even in the fog it was still very pretty and we drove through various attractive little villages on route to Bass Harbour Lighthouse. The light house is one of the images widely used to promote the park but the reality was incredibly disappointing. The classic view of the lighthouse is actully taken from the water, the view from the path is rather uninspiring!

Feeling rather dispirited we drove up to South East Harbour, a pretty fishing village, and had a delicious classic diner meat ball sub which was fantastic.

Carriage Roads

One of the many joys of the park are the Carriage roads which run through the park offering car free easy walks and flat cycling. We stopped off at Eagle Lake carriage road and had a walk by the edge of the lake through the forest. A really beautiful spot but the mosquitos were humungus and extremely viscious!

Thankfully the weather had brightened up so we rounded off our day with a swim and soak in the hot tub.

We had dinner at a local Mexican restaurant, Pancha Villa, which was delicious. We head back to Boston next to fly home to England.
