I love to travel to Maine - I love the coastal towns and the towns on the inlets and rivers. Camden is one of my favorites!

Camden, Maine

I love to travel to Maine and can't do it often enough. Maine in the late summer and early fall is a delight to the eye. The coastal towns are busy places - schooner rides, lobstermen, and other water craft make for busy harbors and inlets.

Camden is a beautiful town right on the water. it boasts a beautiful waterfall which empties right into the bay. Overlooking the waterfalls are shops, boutiques, restaurants, cafes and a park to sit and watch the passing scene. As I wandered around Camden one summer afternoon I came upon a notice which read: "Lost Gray and White Kitten. Child is grieving. 100 pounds of lobster is the reward." I certainly looked around for that kitten but with no avail. I hope the kitten was found and returned to the child.

Camden has six or seven schooners on which you can take a lovely ride out into the ocean. On a beautiful day with the blue ocean and the white sails, it can be a very enjoyable time. Lunch is served on the schooners.

Camden boasts many fine restaurants and cafes. Lobster rolls are on every menu and if you have never tasted a lobster roll - you are definitely in for a treat. They are my very favorite meal to eat while in Maine.

I always keep an eye out for mooose when driving in Maine. I have yet to see one. I'm sure they are there - just not when I am there. Oh well.

A trip to Camden would not be complete without a trip up Mt. Beattie. You take the road north out of town toward Lincolnville and turn into the park on the left. You pay a modest fee and can drive almost up to the top of the mountain. You get out and walk a few steps for an absolutely magnificant view of the harbor and the islands beyond. I never get tired of this view!

I would urge you to visit Camden, Maine and enjoy all that it offers. I hope to get back there very soon. Hope to see you there!
