Baba Viswanath - Kashi

Kashi Viswanath temple is one of the ancient temple which draws devotees from all over the world. The presiding deity is Lord Viswanath or Shiva. In the month of Shravan the devotee throng the temple, place the holy bel leaf on the linga and pray for the well being of family members. It is believed that those who come to Kashi gets the salvation. One can have a bath in the holy Ganges (river) and visit the temple. On Mahasivaratri, the temple authorities find it difficult to manage the devotees. The temple is well accessible by Road and Railways. From Varanasi, one can reach easily through private vehicles also.
There are various ashrams and dham (resting place) where one can stay. Old people generally like to spend their last life at Kashi. A night halt at Varanasi and watching the Ganga Aarti is worth. The presence of Lord shiva can be felt from the heart. The other nearby temples which one can visit are the Dhundi Ganapathy, Visalakshi, Kala Bhairav, Bindu Madhav and Chozhi Mata temple. The Tulasi Manas temple is always full of devotees especially on Tuesday and Saturday. People sit for meditation and also enchant the Hanuman Chalisa with devotion. The Prasad is sold at a nominal price. One can also enjoy a boat ride in the river Ganges in the evening, enjoy local food especially the tiffins and vegetarian meals.
The Kashi Ghat are famous for last rituals or ceremonies. People come from far off places and perform last rituals. The Banares University is one of the oldest University and many students from all over the world come for studies. By paying a nominal charge one can enjoy the old city .
