Japan will offer 10,000 free flights to foreigners who want to visit this country.

Visiting Japan

Japan plans to offer free plane tickets to 10,000 foreigners who want to visit the country next year. This offer is Japan's effort to boost the tourism industry, which hit by a nuclear disaster that occurred earlier this year.

Japan Tourism Board plans to ask the prospective tourists to send online applications for the free flight, detailing where part of Japan they want to visit. The agency will choose the tourists who are lucky, and ask them to write reports about their trips and then publish it on the internet.

Authorities in the field of tourism Japan hopes of positive reports from tourists about
their experiences in Japan. They hope it will help to ease international concerns about
visiting the country. The program will request the tourists to bear other costs, such as
accommodation by themselves. This offer is expected to begin in April 2012 when the budget for it has been approved by the government. It is subject to government budgetary approval, and for now, no details have been decided yet.

The number of foreign tourists to Japan fell more than 50 percent three months after the earthquake and tsunami on 11 March during the same period last year. The earthquake and tsunami has sparked a leak and explosion at a nuclear power plant in Fukushima Daiichi.

The sharp decline eased slightly this summer. In June and July, the number of visits dropped 36 percent compared to last year, down 32 percent in August as the country continues to convince the world tourism market. The government has said Japan is safe, except around the crippled nuclear plant, which is planned to be shut down.
