Last week I discovered the little town of Thetford. it nestles in Norfolk, an idyllic place by the river. Read on to find out more

A little sample of Thetford

Thetford is situated in the East Anglian region of the UK, which enjoys similar temperatures to the South East . I was lucky enough to discover it one day last week when we were visiting the area. As you drive into the town, the road takes you to the car parks, which are situated by the river. A modern, and well stocked library is on the left as you turn towards the parking area, and the staff there are very friendly and courteous. I had reason to visit them to promote my latest book, and found them both helpful and pleasant do deal with.

As we travelled on, we discovered the parking area, and to our delight, it didn't cost anything to park there. This is so unusual these days, as most places have pay and display machines everywhere. It's always a problem trying to find the right amount of change, and deciding how long you are likely to stay, but not in this case.

It was very pleasant by the river, it was a very hot day, but the shade of the trees was most welcome, situated right there is an open air refreshment booth doing a good trade with ice creams. People were sitting at tables under the trees, enjoying a morning coffee, and the whole atmosphere was relaxed and unhurried, which seems to be the lifestyle which is enjoyed in this small area of Norfolk.

Moving on

We carried on exploring, keeping the river on our left, there was a small group of ducks, expectantly hovering near to passers by, no doubt hoping for some bread or other tit bits, which could be fed to them. Further along, was a green iron bridge which spanned the river. I went into the centre of it to admire the view, and looked over to my extreme left, there was a bus garage, and a coach stop.

Several coaches were parked there, and it seemed like Thetford was a place where tourists enjoyed to stop off and explore. We could see some historical architecture from the bridge, which would prove interesting to view, but sadly we weren't able to stay longer to take it in.

Then there's the Shops

At the end of the street were the shops. Once again I didn't get to go round them all, this was mainly because M and Co were sporting a big sign HALF PRICE SALE I can never resist a bargain, so the remainder of my time was spent trying on various garments, along with a lot of other women, we can't help ourselves can we?

My patient Keith had said he was going to find a bank and would only be five minutes, so when I saw so many things I wanted to try on, I rang his mobile, he doesn't do text messages, and explained why I had been held up. I actually had the car keys because I had been on my way back to the car before I encountered M and Co. He took it all in good spirit, especially when I turned up to find him waiting under a tree by the river to keep cool, and then admitted that although I had tried on just about everything, I hadn't actually bought anything.

We left Thetford realising there was probably a lot more of this town to be enjoyed, so will definitely be returning in the future to sample the rest of the delights it has to offer. In the meantime, I thoroughly recommend it for a visit if you happen to be that way.
