They say "It's more fun in the Philippines." There are hundreds of white-sand beaches and tourist destinations the the Philippines can boast of. But how come there are Filipinos who would rather go abroad and experience other country's culture? Why do some prefer to travel internationally instead of exploring their own country? Well, there are many reasons to answer that and here are some of those:
1) Cheaper International Air Fares
If you check the local airline industries' sites, airline companies offer low round trip fares to Hong Kong, Macau or other countries. Yes, it also has cheap fares for domestic flights but not as cheap and enticing as compared to international trips.
2) Expensive Hotel Rates
Resorts in Boracay, Bohol, Palawan and other world-class resorts do not offer lower rates exclusively for Filipinos. They even have their rates in dollars! As a Filipino, one can't help but compute and convert it in Philippine peso, only to realize how expensive a one-night check-in will be.
3) The Urge to Experience Something New
No matter how much one loves its country, you still can't help but wonder how life will be in other places. Going out of the country means immersing oneself and experiencing other country's food and culture, meeting the locals and visiting places that the Philippines doesn't have. "One for the books!"
When you go out of the country, shopping will always be a part of your budget. Shopping in othercountries such as Hong Kong or Vietnam is way cheaper compared to the Philippines. Also, there are some shops that are not available in the country so surely, you'll take advantage of it.
5) Deals, Deals, Deals
SItes such as Ensogo and Groupon offer deals that Filipinos cannot resist: 3 days, 2 nights airfare and hotel accommodation to Bangkok for only P4,999. Then they have a similar rate for a trip to Boracay. Since opportunity to go abroad is once in a lifetime, they choose the Bangkok deal
6) Tourism Department's campaign attracts international travelers, not Filipinos
The tourism advertisement released shows a foreigner who had a dream that she was having the time of her life in the Philippines. While the advertisement shows the beauty of the country, it is meant to entice non-Filipinos to go and visit. Of course that's the main objective, but don't you think the Toursim Department should also strengthen the Filipino market to support and promote its own?
The Philippines is a wonderful country. It has a lot of tourist destinations that every Filipino should be proud of. I just hope each one of them will be able to see and experience it on their own.
