Tea Garden

Darjeeling is famous for its aromatic tea gardens, which earned Darjeeling the international fame. The resultant distinctive Darjeeling tea is internationally recognised and ranks among the most popular of the black teas. It is full with its natural beauty.The Darjeeling Himalayan Railway is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Darjeeling is an amazing destination for enjoying the pristine natural beauty. The town is having various tourist attractions. It is also one of the famous honeymoon destinations in India. Darjeeling is a Himalayan city now in the Indian state of West Bengal. Darjeeling was a part of Nepal but British took it from Nepal while it was ruling India. The town is located in the Mahabharat Range or Lesser Himalaya at an average elevation of 6,710 ft (2,050 m).

Flora and Fauna In Darjeeling

Darjeeling is a hot spot for Eco-tourism in India. One can sight a wide variety of animals and plants here. Darjeeling is a part of the Eastern Himalayan zoo-geographic zone. The fauna found in Darjeeling includes several species of ducks, teals, plovers and gulls that pass Darjeeling while migrating to and from Tibet. Small mammals found in the region include civets,mongooses and badgers. The nearby Jaldapara Wildlife Sanctuary consists of semi-evergreen and sal forests. Animals found here include the one-horned rhinoceros, elephant, tiger, leopard and hog deer, while the main bird species include the Bengal florican and herons. The flora here encompasses around 139 species of Rhododendrons, magnolia flowers in white, pink and magenta and orchids of different varieties.

Tiger Hill

Tiger Hill is a wonderful location in Darjeeling which offers breathtaking views of sunrise. It attracts tourists in large numbers, the Tiger hill is located at an elevation of 2590 m.

Tea Gardens

Darjeeling is famous all over the world over for its quality tea. Visit these tea gardens and experience the rich smell of the fresh tea leaves. Enjoy Darjeeling tea and take back home packets of tea leaves. There are around 70 tea gardens in Darjeeling and the most famous one is the Happy Valley Tea Estate.

Buddhist Monasteries

There are several Buddhist monasteries in Darjeeling and the oldest is the Yiga Chilling Monastery.Other monasteries are the Samten Cholling Monastery, the Drukpa Kargyud Monastery, the Dali Monastery and the Bhutia Busty Monastery.

The Museum Of Natural History houses a rare collection of the fauna of the Himalayan region.

Founded in honor of Tenzing Norgay(who conquered Mt. Everest), the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute is famous for its imparting excellent training in mountaineering.

Himalayan Zoological Park and Snow Leopard Breeding Center

These wildlife parks are the homes of the Siberian Tiger, Himalayan Black Bear, Barking Deer, Snow Leopard, Red panda, Tibetan Wolf and the Himalayan Pheasant.

Lloyds Botanical Garden

This garden is full with a rich collection of rhododendron, magnolia, orchids of the Eastern Himalayas, alpine flowers and medicinal plants.

Darjeeling is well connected with the main cities like Kolkata, Kalimpong, Kurseong, Gangtok, Bagdogra and Siliguri by road.

Darjeeling is famous for its handicrafts such as town-brass statues, religious objects, jewelery, wooden carvings, woven fabrics and Tibetan carpets. The best place for shopping in Darjeeling is the Hayden Hall, a women's co-operative, opposite the State Bank of India on Laden La Rd.
