The article speaks about the charm of Chortens situated near the highway in Dochula Pass, very close to Thimphu, Bhutan.

Charm of the Chortens.

There are 108 Chortens at Dochula Pass near Thimphu in Bhutan. It is situated at around 13000 feet above sea level. In Asia the chortens are maximum in number in such a huge height.

Chorten.

Chorten in Bhutanese means “the basis of offering.” It is also considered the symbol of enlightened mind.

Hills.

The chortens are situated along a slope of the mountain and there are 108 of them having similar sizes spread across the Dochula Pass.

Shapes.

The shapes of the Chortens included a square stone pillar with Khemar near the top. Their shapes are a bit different from the shapes of the Chortens in Tibet or Nepal.

Location.

The Chortens are located in Thimphu Punakha highway. Those who travel from Thimphu to Punakha have to visit the place.

Nomenclature.

The Chortens are also called Druk Wangyal Chorten which are 108 in number and spread across the highway creating a beautiful landscape.

Atmosphere.

There is beautiful atmosphere all around the Chortens. Even in summer there is cool surroundings as opposed to other hills in Bhutan.

Creation

The Chortens were built by eldest Queen mother, Ashi Dorji Wangmo Yankchuk. It has huge spiritual value for the Buddhists.

Fog and mist.

There is a lot of fog and mist which cover the Chortens in most part of the year. They create a heavenly atmosphere.

Temperature.

As the Chortens are situated above 13000 feet, generally in summers it is cool, in winter it is very cold all around the Pass and the chortens.

Visibility.

China and Tibet can be seen from Dochula Pass. So the Chortens are situated at the tip of the Himalayas which separate the country with the other countries.

Visitors should visit the Chortens.

Visitors should visit the Chortens in Dochula Pass as they form important historical structure which have eminence in the life of Bhutanese.

A lot of publicity is required in respect of Dochula Pass and the Chortens. Many people all across the world dont know about the existence.
